Need help with using Access databases on the web

Hi all,

I hope this is the right group... if not, a pointer would be appreciated.

Our club is setting up a web site (HTML & ASP) with some information that
will be provided by an Access database. The problem that I've run into is
that the application fails because the Access driver is looking for a
"Workgroup identification file". I don't know of a way to provide such a
file because the server (host) is not under our control, and even if such
a thing could be done, it wouldn't be desirable for other reasons.

What is the best way to go about resolving this?

TIA

Neil

Access uses a workgroup file for security. The default workgroup file used
by Access is system.mdw (or system.mda in old versions).

I would have thought though that this was optionalanyway?

Perhaps it's an issue with your connect string?

As I wrote, the host is not under our control, so even though there is
ample information about how to change the workgroup ID file for local
users, it isn't a viable solution in this case.

It may be resolvable via some parameter in the connect string, but I
haven't seen any references to such a parameter, or even a need to deal
with workgroups for internet applications that use Access databases. I'd
think it would be near the top of the list of things to do if it were
necessary.

Thanks for your response.

You might get a better understanding of the issues with Access (e.g. jet
) DB on the web.

Excellent write-up... thanks for the pointer! I will now stop beating my
head against that particular wall.
