Telling programatically whether an Office product is installed

I need to be able to determine programatically from VBA whether a
particular Microsoft Office product is installed (Excel usually).
Microsoft suggests using the Windows Installer API function
MSIEnumProducts(), but that only works for Windows 2000 and XP. Some of
my installations are on Windows 98 machines. Any ideas?

Try using CreateObject to start instance of Excel and trap error
if not installed.
