Google says piss off!

P: n/a

This is what happens if you complain to the notified abuse address!
Thank you for your note. Google does not regularly monitor or censor
postings sent to Google Groups, but we do try to prevent wide-scale
spam
and other forms of Usenet abuse. Please be assured that the
information
you sent to us is being collected and taken into account. While we
understand how annoying off-topic posts can be, we aren't able to
pursue
most complaints we receive about them. We are using the information
you
provide to make large-scale improvements in preventing abuse. We
appreciate your help in our efforts to increase the quality of Google
Groups.

general
Google Groups question or wish to report a post that you suspect is
illegal, please write to us at gr************@google.com

Your interpretation of that reply is different than mine.

They are saying they are interested in trying to prevent their interface from
being used for bulk posings and spam, and will take the information you sent
them into account in designing their strategy, at the same time making sure to
disclaim any intent to censor individual messages that may be off-topic in a
public forum. After all, it's not Google's job to moderate groups, right?

I imagine the response might be different if the message were clearly illegal,
such as slander, etc.

In fact, Google has cancelled the accounts of posters who violated their
Acceptable Use Policy in the past. It is useful to send the information to
them with a polite note such as:

"Your user spammed the newsgroups with the following. Please take
appropriate action. Thank you." Then include the USENET headers and the
offending message.
