Having issues searching the record when the field is in number

9 New Member
I am new to MS Access. I have created a database. One of the field have Item number which has more than 20 digits. First i had the field with Text. I have problem as the Item number is duplicating. because the clients scan the number in two different ways. Either using the box or the label on item. if they scan through the box, there will be no leading zero. But if the same item scanned through the label there is leading o. For instance if they scanned the box, the item number is 123456789. If they scanned the label the item number would be 0123456789. This is the reason, I am getting duplicate Item number. To avoid this, I made the field changed to number instead of text and made the field size to decimal. precision 23 and scale 0. this worked fine. If I scan the label, it avoided the leading 0. Now the problem is when i tried to search the record, I couldnt. Everytime when I use control F and search for the record, it is not searching the record. I am getting message that "Microsoft access finished searching the records. The search item was not found". Can you please explain why it is not searching.

2. I also have another question. I have 5 fields "Item number, Item description, Location, Status and date recd". Quite often the location will be changed. Right now, to change the Location I get in to the table, use Control f to search that record and change the status. Is there any way, I scan the item number in the Form, so it will give the other details in the form, so I can change the location in the form and save it. instead of using the table everytime. I want the front users use only the form to change the location instead of using directly the tables. Now the tables have no control. The record can easily will be deleted.

I duplicated the first problem you stated. If I convert a text field to numeric (decimal) and then do ctrl F to find a number in it I get the following results.

If the Look in is set to the field it says that the item was not found.

If I set Look in to the table then it finds the value I am looking for.

This occurs when I synchronize data from one sql server to another via internet The problem is only faced on Windows 98, ME It works perfectly on Windows 2000 computers, and some versions of X The Error occurs on the statement myDataadapter.Fill(myDataset,"myDatatable" Just for debugging i tried reducing the number of rows to be imported and the same codes ran fine but when the number of...

I have a Tabular form bound to a table. The purpose of this form is to get times from a timer and record them in a field. The timer dumps the time automatically through a serial port. When the time is recorded it goes to the next record. Sometimes a user may have to skip a record and come back. All of this is no problem and works great. I have 3 buttons that will set any penalties in a record. The person just needs to hit a button to...

Hi, I have a problem..I'm doing a specific query where I'm joining fields from a table with appednded data (there are duplicate records, except for the date/time), and another query. I want the results of the new query to return ALL of the matches, and only the latest record when it finds duplicates. Performing a return top values doesn't work because it doesn't return all of the matchs, using LAST in the date field criteria only...

To all: I have a question: I have a form whose Default View is Continuous Forms. When I select a field (F3), it's backgroud higlights -- that was easy, using conditional formatting. What I want is for all fields of a record (F1 & F2) to bold (or some other formatting) when field F3 of that record has focus. Any ideas?

If one has a working subform, adds a new field to the subform's table, then adds the field (control) to the subform, MS Access 2003 (11.6566.6568) SP2 will not see that new field in Form View. The string "Name?" appears in the newly added control indicating a broken reference. Updating the Record Source by adding the field to query and saving doesn't help. If one does this in form view, the message appears: The Microsoft Jet database...

I have a form that has lots of sub forms on it. The user shouldn't be editing the information that isn't part of the sub forms, and the fields are locked... but when a user presses return/enter - access seemingly progresses onto the next record for the parent form (and at the end it just goes to create a new record). How can I stop access from going to the next record when they press enter? Thanks.

I am new to access and am having a problem with filtering. Here is a little bit of my setup: I have a main form that has a listbox so that users can choose one or many groups in which to display information about. The control name of the listbox is "grupos". The name of the field it is sorting is "Grupo_Nombre". From the user´s selection, they can open up differing forms using command buttons that display filtered information about either...

Hi -I have a form which contains a sub-form. The sub-form is tied to the main form by a shared field called Project_ID. The main form has one record per Project. The sub-form has many records per Project. When I'm adding Project records and go to a new record, the sub-form has no data in it. But then as soon as I type any data into the first field on the main form (after I type in the first character), the sub-form appears to populate...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
