Inputting data from a form into a linked table

24 New Member
Good Morning All.

I know this is probably avery simple thing to do, but I'm not too familiar with Access. Some of you have probably read other posts I have created trying to get Excel to do things it just really wasn't designed to do so I decided to bypass that mess and create an Access database. Here's the issue:

I have a linked Excel table in my Access database. It is currently blank and ready for the data to be inputted. I also have a table built for the exact information I would like to be in the Excel Spreadsheet along with tow other tables for the Combo Box option. What I need is to know if I need to build a form off of the linked Excel Spreadsheet (because I do want the Combo Box option) or should I build a form off of the table I created. I tried to build a form off of the Excel Table and I couldn't input any information. If I do use the table option, how do I get the data from there and into my linked Excel Spreadsheet? I need the ability to choose from a dropdown as the field for Code ID is very specific in what I need and 871 give or take Activities long.

To restate the question or issue:

With a linked (and blank) Excel file and the need to use a Combo Box, how do I get data into the linked Table or how do I get the data from Table1(which has the dropdown feature and has the same info I need for my Excel Table) into my linked Spreadsheet?

I think I said all of that right. Anyways... Thatnks for the assistance!

Bill, I'm struggling to understand your question (I know. You've obviously tried to be lay it all out clearly). This is maybe because you're trying to throw two questions into the mix and there are no clear boundaries between the two (Two questions should never be asked in the same thread. This causes more complications than simply the confusion in this one).

All I understand from this (ignoring the second part of the question which doesn't appear to live here) is that you are trying to populate a linked Excel table from within your Access database. I would say that generally, this is straightforward . There may be issues in this case which confuse the matter, but if so we don't have a clear handle on what they are. Generally though, using the form wizard on the linked table should help you to create a form which enables populating and updating of this table. If this isn't working for you, I would interpret that to mean that you have taken a mis-step somewhere along the line. I can't take this any further without knowing more details of your situation. I'm not even in a good position to list the details I would need at this point I'm afraid. I know this is all quite new for you, so I sympathise with your predicament, but do what you can to explain what's happened so far for us to be more help. Alternatively, try again using my brief instructions above and see what goes wrong where.

I have a database with a linked table within it. I have a query form that opens and allows the user to select criteria and then the form is filled with data found from the linked table. At what point is the table linking? For example, if I open the form it takes forever. I would like the form to open immediately, allow the user to enter data and then have it search the linked table. It appears it is opening the linked table and then...

Hello one and all. I have a stored table in my database and the form I'm using is based on a query that draws data from my stored table and a linked table. The linked table is a *.txt file. However, whenever I try to edit data I get the error message "Updating data in a linked table is not supported by this ISAM." I can understand not being able to edit the linked data, but the field I'm trying to update is drawn from the stored...

I wish to type in a number in my "Code" field, for instance 1060, I then wish the number 1060 to trigger an event that will fill in the next field (township field) For instance, 1060 brings up and fills in name "Spencer Tp". I have 30 townships,2 cities, 6 villages and identifiers consisting 38 separate code numbers assigned by our county government to identify each township, city and village. I ran a "Make Table Query", have created a...

Hello, I am trying to take all the data from one table and transfer it to another table with exactly the same column names in the same database. I have done this with a small sql script in an update query but now can't seem to figure out how. =( I am doing this because one of the tables is a linked table to a mysql table and I am copying the data then deleting the original table which is in access 2000. Thanks for any help steve

I have been using a SQL database with a VB5 frontend for about 5 years. Works well. Unfortunately I don't have access to the source code. I was tasked with implementing a "job entry" application that will allow a restricted list of users to enter jobs in the database. We do not want these users to be able to access all the data. I created an application in Access 2002 that performs this function seemingly quite well. However we now...

Anyone know a way to make all access to a linked table, in another Access MDB, read only? I really don't want all the hassle of implementing full access security. I can't do this at the server file system because in some front ends the user needs update access. I want to give users access to the data for reporting with their own queries and reports. I just don't want to take a chance on them

I have a meetings section I'm developing on our intranet. Using PHP/MySQL. Meeting info and Meeting docs reside on 2 related tables in the db. Users may want to upload anywhere from 1 to 10 or more documents to share/use during a meeting presentation. What would be the most efficient way to approach this? This is the logic I'm currently considering: Page 1: Meeting Information input with link to a document upload page (this page...

I am new to scripting (and to Access), so don't be bashful if you feel you have to explain things to me on an elementary level. I have managed to create a table and its subsequent form title "Personnel Info". I have also created a table and form titled "Recall" for address and telephone contact information. What I would like to be able to do is use information from the Personnel Info form and have it automatically pull data into the Recall form...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
