Why do form header (unbound controls) get copied as well as data

3 New Member
MS Access 2007. When doing a simple record select and copy on a continous form, all the unbound controls in the form header get copied as well. Evidence of this is seen if you paste into Excel.

the unbound controls are in some cases, combo boxes and in some cases, text boxes

I have set properties to locked and not enabled and set tab stop to No and even re-ordered tab index. None of the above has helped.

Does anyone have an idea as my web searches so far have revealed nothing.

Clearly this is about selecting rather than copying. Copying copies what is selected.

That said, you provide no information as to what you select or how, so it's not really possible to help further at this time as far as I can see.

Thankyou for the response, Just to clarify what is selected, I am using continous forms, and the select is done on the record select button > to the left of the record. It appears that Access is treating all unbound controls in the form header as part of the record (which they are not). Just create a simple .accdb with one form that has a few text boxes in the header to illustrate the point. Just select a record and paste into Excel and you will see what I mean.

The only solution I have found, is to create an unbound subform that is filtered / requeried by the search values in the combo/ text boxes in the main form. This does work but sounds like an overely complicated solution to a simple problem.

I wouldn't make assumptions as to what should and shouldn't be selected when selecting a record the way you are. The chances are they have given the issue a lot more thought than you have, and from many more potential angles. That said, it does seem unfortunate that the unbound controls are included. Just as a thought. Many people design forms which display records where the common (Grouped) data is shown in the Header Section, whereas the changeable data is shown in the Detail Section. I suspect this was part of the reasoning for including the Header controls in the selected record. I'm just guessing at their reasoning of course. I can't say for sure.

Never mind. Have you tried selecting what you want in the old-fashioned way, by dragging over what you want with the mouse? I know that may be more complicated as I can't see the form, but I have to ask.

I have played with selections within a TextBox control, and there is code to help with that (Properties that you can play with). Unfortunately, when selecting multiple controls on a form, I don't know of any such properties available to play with. If there were any, you could possibly modify the selection with some code. Again, we're in uncharted territory here. Not something I've ever worked with before.

Thanks for your input. There are workarounds to the problem, one of which is to use split forms (a feature I don’t use often as my roots are in Access 97 and 2000 where such things did not exist). Incidentally using a split form works correctly and the unbound controls in the header are not copied. Thanks again for the assistance.

Hi: I have developed a form, commencing with the form wizard showing in Design View. Having developed the form partially, I wanted to put a page header on it which would contain the controls. I set up the header in Design view, but when I switch to Form view the header does not show. Is there something I am doing wrong or is there some switch I should sent and have not? Greetings! Still the same application (as previous posts). I worked on the app while at work (don't tell my boss ... cause this is just for fun and not work related) and the form was working, but now when I try to repeat the code at home (for real) it won't work. I suspect that I haven't replicated the logic and forms at home from what I remember that I did while at work. My subform is based on a table called "tblTrialClass" and it...

I have a form, bound to a query. Its RecordSource property is a query named frmEnterLienAmounts. The form has a few bound controls and some unbound controls. The unbound controls are calculated fields whose DefaultValue property is set to something like DLookUp("","tblVehicleJobs","=Forms!frmEnterLienAmounts!VehicleJobID") The form (frmEnterLienAmounts) has, as one of its bound fields . As I scroll through the records, one-

I'm developing an application for use within my company in Access 2003. I'm new to '03, the application I did for my former employer was in '97. The two applications have similar functionality (we're sales offices, and I'm doing things such as associate directories, commission calculations, order tracking, etc.). 2003 seems to have a few extra features, but I seem to continually run in to oddities that seem like they SHOULD work, but...

Hi All, I have a mainform with a subform in which I show some task summary data. On the mainform I have a number of unbound controls that reflect values relevant to each task in the subform. The unbound controls are populated in the subform's OnCurrent even from a number of different tables related to the records in tbl_tasks, which is the recordset displayed in the subform.

With ASP.NET 2.0: I have managed to create controls dynamically in an asp:table, populating them with database info, and even adding empty rows of controls for adding new data to the database. For all this to work I add a ViewState counter, so far so well. But I also want to clear the form, remove the controls and remove all ViewState data. This is done with some code behind a button. I have tried various kind of commands, and they...

For some reason referencing an unbound control on an active form from a query has ceased to work correctly. While other previously existing references to unbound controls in the same form seem to work fine new ones just return null or if referencing a combo box some random character (usually a box). In fact any subsequent queries created that reference controls on active forms don't seem to work properly. What could be causing this problem? ...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
