Need recommendation on method to get table data from one .mdb to another

167 New Member
I have an access app that is in version 2000. We are upgrading to 2007 and I have made all the changes for the 2000 app to run under 2007 in Runtime Access. This app is basically a 'skeleton' in which the users grab a copy and load with data for an account. Therefore, each account is a separate .mdb. My dilema is that once we upgrade to 2007, I need to handle the accounts they have open still in the old 2000 app version... they will not run under runtime access. Trying to think of the best method to handle these so I was thinking about writing some sort of a conversion app. I need to make it 'user friendly' so each user can run whatever I build for them and convert their apps as needed. Any suggestions on the best approach to handle this? I want to take the new version of the app for 2007 and grab the data from the tables from the 2000 app and import them into the 2007 version. Thanks in advance for any recommendations !!

I've been bad about documentation so far but I'm going to try to be better. I've mostly worked alone so I'm the only one, so far, who's suffered from my bad habits. But I'd like other programmers to have an easier time understanding what I do. Therefore this weekend I'm going to spend 3 days just writing comments. Before I do it, I thought I'd ask other programmers what information they find useful. Below is a typical class I've...

I have the Transact-SQL Programming book from O'Reilly. It was published in 1999. It states that "SELECT ... INTO" statements end up locking the entire database of the target table. Since the tempdb is also involved (in many cases), this creates major deadlocks for the entire database and all users. It suggests using the "INSERT ... SELECT" form instead. Considering that the book is somehow dated, is this recommendation still valid,...

I have an applicaton in which I collect data for different parameters for a set of devices. The data are entered into a single table, each set of name, value pairs time-stamped and associated with a device. The definition of the table is as follows: CREATE TABLE devicedata ( device_id int NOT NULL REFERENCES devices(id), -- id in the device

I have <asp:Table... </asp:Table> on my webform. In codebehind, I populate a DataTable whose data should appear in the asp:Table. I created my own code to populate the asp:Table with the DataTable, then I discovered the asp:Table has a DataBind method. But the method takes no args and so I'm confused how to use it. Is there a link to see how DataBind works for asp:Table? Should I just use my own code anyway? Thanks... Here's my...

I have to migrate data from one database table to another table in another database where the fields do not match, not even in the same order, and even if they do match, on occasions the datatypes are completely different (varchar vs int, varchar vs char, int vs datetime, etc.). I am expected to do this immediately so this is an emergency request. Help!

I would be grateful if someone had a minute or two to review my hash table implementation. It's not yet commented but hopefully it's short and idiomatic enough to be readable. Some of the code (i.e. the get_hash function) is borrowed from various snippets I found on the net. Thee free function could probably need some love. I have been thinking about having a second linked list of all entries so that the cost of freeing is in proportion to...

Greetings. My disclaimer first - I am a neophyte where VB and ACCESS are concerned, but I have been programming for quite a long time. That said ... I created a db at work using MS/ACCESS 2000 to assist in our software project management. The group I work with (online transaction processing for a major financial institution) works on various projects. Our programmers are assigned tasks for these projects. Projects are grouped into a...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
