Hi
I have built a database that is currently being used by multiple
users. I have not added user-level security to it because I don't
understand it very well. I would like to add a audit trail table to
track important changes in the database and would like some VB code to
be able to do it. Also when I tried to set up user level security I
was getting a prompt for a password for every database I was using.
How do I only set up the...

I wrote ASP.NET application that access SQL Server database. When I run the
application, it yields "Login failed for user '<COMPUTER_NAME>\ASPNET'"
error message.
I then did the following, but still didn't work. Any ideas??
1. In IIS console, right click the virtual directory
2. click directory security tab
3. click edit button on anonymous access
4. click browse button

Background:
When I create a ASP.NET control (User or custom), it often requires security to be set for certain functionality with the control. For example, a news release user control that is comprised of a DataGrid may have separate permissions for adding, deleting and updating a news item.
Problem
Up until now, I have been implementing security directly inside the control. I will test directly against the security model to see if...

Hi
I need to set security for row level but not based on Database user's
login. It should be based on the user table login. For the particular
user I need to allow only the particular records to access insert,
update delete and select.
Let me explain clearly
For example think we are using asp/asp.net website

Why the heck was this dropped? All my dbs use ULS even the complex ones. It
aint perfect, it's too fiddly, but it works.
How will I be able to say "These users can run these reports and these users
can't." in Access 2007? Will I have to create my own tables
(tblSecurityGroups, tblSecurityUsers) and code the whole thing?
Thanks,
Paul

I am writing a service that monitors when a particular app is started.
Works, but I need to get the user who is currently logged in, and of course
Environment.UserName returns the service logon (NT_AUTHORITY\SYSTEM).
I understand that when the service starts, no user may be logged in, but
that's ok, as the app I am monitoring can only be run by a logged in user.
Do I need to use WMI to get the user context of Explorer.exe or is there a...

Hello everyone. I've searched through the archives here, and it seems
that questions similar to this one have come up in the past, but I was
hoping that I could pick your Pythonic brains a bit.
Here's a broad overview of what I need to do: cross-platform, client-
side GUI apps that interact with a server backed by a database. I'd
also like the possibility of having a web interface for small portions
of the app. It will be a fairly...

Hi,
I've been trying to implement a more OOP oriented approach to dealing with user security on one of my websites, and I am trying to validate the user against an array of roles, however I am struggling with a type error:
The argument ROLES passed to function setRoles() is not of type array.
If the component name is specified as a type of this argument, the reason for this error might be that a definition file for such component...

I realize that user level security is not available for Access
databases in the new AK27 format .accdb, and I know that I can still
utilize ULS by making my database an .mdb file.
But I'm wondering WHY Microsoft is scrapping a feature that I've
always found to be extremely useful. Surely they don't expect that
users of the new database format will no longer have a need to assign
permissions at different levels for different users! Why...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
