Digital Certificate question

We have an application developed by one developer. He compiled the
database into an application and digitally signed the application. He
doesn't know if he used selfcert of makecert to make the key.

The problem is I am creating additional forms now for the database on
a different machine. Whenever we try and incorporate the forms I
develop into the application, the application fails on some users'
machines. We suspect it is because I am not developing with the same
digital certificate the application was originally signed with.

Do I need to import the the original digital certificate for my
development efforts?
If so, how do I do that?

Thanks.

What do you mean by "applicatio n fails"? Do the changes not save or does the
db not open afterwards? What's the error message?

If he used self sert the app will only open on his pc without the security
messages if he has macro security set to medium, the other pcs will show the
security messages if they don't have macro security set to low.

If you modify the design, you invalidate that certificate. You need to
purchase your own digital certificate if you're developing databases for an
audience that requires digital signatures. OTH if this other developer is in
your organization, after your changes he can sign the db with the digital
certificate he has set up on his pc. Or work with your network admins to set
up the organizational digital certificate on your pc too.

Thanks for the response.

The failure we get is that the application won't execute after
install. Access indicates some type of fatal error and closes. This
only happens on some machines, of which some only have runtime. This
is a real pain and no one seems to know why this is happening? Your
thoughts please.

The most common reason for a db app to close with a fatal error and no error
message with the Access runtime is from poor vba coding and inadequate
testing and error handling. The runtime requires a robust design and coding.

Look at the new forms you added. How many procedures don't have any error
handling or rely on "On error resume next"? If it's more than zero, start
adding error handling.

Thanks a lot. I will look at this a little closer. I was not aware of
the stringency of runtime.

Make sure it compiles, too. It's easy to forget that step after importing a
bunch of new forms.

Hi all, Happy New Year. I am using SignedXML and an X509 certificate to digitally sign a SOAP message body and put the signature in the SOAP header for a B2B business application. Can you suggest which type of digital certificates from VeriSign is for this purpose? I checked VeriSign's web site but didn't find it obvious to decide.

How does one obtain a Digital Certificate? Apparently in A2K3, the user will always see a security warning (unless Security is set to Low) unless the code contains a Digital Signature. (Got all of that from reading the Help). But I can't find anything about how to get the Digital Certificate so that a Digital Signature can be attached. Thanks for any information. Randy

Hi everyone Has anyone got the least experience in integrating the Digital Signature with an ASP.NET Web Application? Here in Denmark, as I supose in many other countries, they're promoting the digital signature. A lot of people already has one, to do their taxes, and much more. I have to use for a business-to-business e-commerce solution, where it's vital that the right user is being logged on, and not give his username and password...

I'm having some difficulty finding the information I need. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I need to call methods on a web service defined by one of our vendors. They require, when I make these calls, that I identify myself with a digital certificate. All of their coding examples are for Java, and they have no immediate plans to support .NET folks, alas. I've successfully added a web reference to their web service...

Hi All: I'm using the WebBrowser control in one Form inside my VB.NET application; the page I'm going to display in the control requires you to have a Digital Certificate since it's secured. The DC is already installed in my PC so when the page is loaded i got the popup asking to select the certificate from a list of my certificates.

Hi Guys, Hopefully this should be a simple question. We have some executables which we developed but when we run it over the network it shows us a security on windows xp asking if we are sure we want to run. Ideally we would like to not have these warning message and to my understanding , we need a digital certificate to sign our executables. 1. Now being a layman in this area, I am clueless on how to sign our executables? 2. I am...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
