Acc2K - Parse Memo Field into Separate Fields

Hello Again All,

I have a memo field that is backslash delimited. I am attempting to break up this field into individual fields.

Ex (memo field). \John L. Doe\\StreetName RD\\City, Pa 11111
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. To look like this:
  2. John L. Doe          StreetName RD         City, Pa 11111
  3.
I have been using this function in a query which, works fine if that part in the memo field is always constant i.e. company name.
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. right(left[tablename],instr(x, [tablename],"\")-1,x)   'where x is an integer
  2.
How can I parse, say the customer name, being that it's never a constant length?

Hi, Bender.

You may use Split() function to parse substrings easily.

I have a pretty straightforward database that is designed to record free-form information about products (date, source and a memo field). This is searched and updated via a form. For new records, the memo field is usually filled by cutting and pasting from e-mails, web content and spreadsheets. The only problem is that some of the memos can be just a few words, and some can be tens or hundreds of lines, and I've realised that zooming...

I'm trying to import data into a memo field by running an append query. The data is to be imported as if it was entered with separate lines in the memo field. I have tried inserting chr(13)s into the string that is being appended into the memo field but when appended, the data displays with a square box in place of a carriage return/line feed. I would like to import the data so that data is displayed in separate lines within the memo...

Hello, I'm looking for a way to parse/format a memo field within a report. The Access 2000 database (application) has an equipment table that holds a memo field. Within the report, the memo field is printed within the detailed area. The problem is, the apllication is not setup properly, thus the users are entering data within the memo field as: location1 1/1/2005 1/1/2006

I have a table with two fields. I wish to separate all the data in one field and keep it listed against the information in the other field. The information within the field TicketStatus, I wish to separate is separated with a small box, meaning a tab .There can be up to twenty separate bits of info in the field. I would like to get a table in which the information in the field I am trying to separate (TicketStatus),is individually listed...

This is mainly a speed question. In this example: I have a QuotesHdr table that has a few memo fields. If these memo fields are used extensively by some users, and if their are a large number of records in QuotesHdr, should I break out the memo fields into a separate table? The thinking here is that, for Quotes selection dropdowns that display all entries in QuotesHdr for selection, I would think that the entire record comes down over...

I've been asked to construct a database which will require several memo fields. This database will be the standard frontend/backend mdb configuration. I have read many posts describing the corruption problems associated with memo fields, especially in a networked environment. Am I asking for trouble if I go ahead with this project?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
