Import Columns from SQL Database

I am new to Access and have a quick question. I'm trying to import
data from a SQL database, but the table that I'd like to import is
enormous. I have gotten all of the connections to work, but as far as
I can tell, there's not a way to import certain rows of the SQL table
into a new table in Access. Is it possible to somehow use a SELECT
statement rather than importing the entire table?

Thanks,
Ben

Another way.

1. Create an ADP.
2. Connect to the SQL DB from the ADP (File -Connections - or use
the dialog that will open when the ADP is created.)
3. Close the ADP.
4. Open or create the MDB where you want the new table to live.
5. Click File -Get External Data -... follow the prompts, select
the ADP, select the table. Click OK. That's it. Access now looks after
everything.

Hi all, I've just finished almost all of what has turned out to be a real bear of a project. It has to import data from a monthly spreadsheet export from another program, and convert that into normalized data. The task is made more difficult by the fact that the structure itself can vary from month to month (in well defined ways). So, I used the SQL-centric approach, taking vertical stripes at a time so that, for instance, for each...

I'm restarting this thread with a different focus. The project I'm working on now id coming along and will be made to work, and it's too late to start over with a new strategy. Still, I'm not coming to a firm conclusion over whether it was the better approach, and wonder if I should do it differently the next time I'm faced with a similar issue. I needed an app to automatically import from spreadsheets with a semi-dynamic structure,...

Hi all, I'm working on a database that relies on data from various sources through the company. This data needs to be updated regularly. The data is not in normal form when I get it (mostly just bad Excel files.) I will require the user to put the data into rows and columns in preparation for an import, but nothing

Not that up on MS Access. I understand that the TransferText command can be used to import csv files into a database. Question: Does the text file have to mirror the alignment of the table columns e.g. must field1, field2, filed3 etc correspond to col1, col2, col3 on the table? or can I state somewhere which columns in the text file correspond to which table columns. I actually need col1, col2, col5 and col6 from the text file to populate...

I need to import a spreadsheet into an Access table. The spreadsheet has performance for mutual funds for various periods. The problem is that if there is no info for a particular period, the spreadsheet contains a dash in the cell (for example if the fun is only 4 years old and I look in the columns for 5-year and 10-year performance). I cannot change the dashes to blank with a global change, the negative numbers would lose the...

Hello everybody, your help will be very very welcome on a very classic question... I have some Excell Macro background, a little bit of VBA knowledge. I import daily from Internet series of data. They are setup as follow, with a few more columns on the rights as stock prices, dividend and so on as: Date Code Country Adjust Reason Name Shares 25/02/2005 FR0000045072 FR CREDIT AGRICOLE

I am trying to import a data file, which is tab delimited, using BULK INSERT. I have used BCP to create a format file, since the destination table has around 20 columns, but the data file has only three. Here's the problem: The columns I am trying to import comprise ID (an int identity column), Name (a varchar(255) column and Status (a small int column). The data file contains identity values for the first column, so I am using the...

Folks: We have a web-based app that's _really_ slowing down because multiple clients are writing their own private data into a single, central database. I guess the previous programmer did things this way because it made things easy. Well, I'm the person that has to put up with the long-term headache. Anywho, someone at work wants things sped up, so what I'm looking at doing is this for each client:

I'm a dba for SQL server and I Will import a textfile to SQL. For example I use a file with 3 columns. ID, Name and Surname and the columns are tab separated. I don't know much about programming. Anyway, I use this code below. It works, but it will not split the columns. I have tried to change the argumnts in str(alllines) Some of the columns can include many characters and some not. For exampel names can be Bo or Lars-Ture. I be glad...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
