We currently have 5 separate databases to track issues and keep updates. The issues as they are now are entered with primarily drop down boxes on the data entry form and text. Each database has 3-4 users.
BTW - these are plopped up on a shared network drive.
The problem is, each of my five group users need to have access to all of the information provided by the other four. We are looking for a solution ot merge all of the databases into one master file having approximately 25 users with read/write/create capabilities.
Ultimately I will need to have 25-50 additional users with read only capabilities.
I would like to have a solution that integrates with Sharepoint allowing the flexibility to create queries based on the issues, the personnell responsible for the users, and possibly even use the data to determine funding requirements and BI at the project level reported in the issue.
I am currently using Access 2003 and managment is under the impression that Access 2007 will resolve all of the instability issues of the past and merge nicely with Sharepoint server.

Access 2007 is as you say heavily tied to Sharepoint now. As a matter of fact that is how it does all the user access now (login etc.)
To combine all databases you would redo a bit of the front end and link all the databases - FE/BE also helps to eliminate a number of problems in Access with keeping the interface and data in one big file.
As for BI - that is not what Access is for. Access is a transactional database. For true BI you might incorporate Anaylysis Services or any other analytical database. The new Excel (2007) works great with Analysis services. Export your Access data to Analisys services and create your cubes, etc. then use Excel 2007 pivot tables and it works very nicely.
