Problem with my database being placed in a state by a user.

76 New Member
I have a database that I created to be used by several people on a network. Every now and then, when someone has it open, and another wants to open it they get this error; "The database has been placed in a state by user <name> on machine <name> that prevents it from being opened or locked. (Error 3734)."

Is there a reason this is happening, because I can sometime access the database when the same person has it open. Is there somethin I can put in V Basic to either save what ever has been changed or a setting I might be missing?

I like to thank you in advance for the help.

Hello, Briansmi1116!

Is the database on a shared drive?

It could just be a network error or burb, temporary and can be fixed by rebooting.

Access databases, I believe, should not keep your users from loggin in, Excel does that.

Also, did you add this database to user machines as a user or admin, that could have some unfriendly effects.

Have a look tom see;-)

Sorry for your troubles.

It is on a shared network drive. I'm not sure why it keeps people out, while someone else has it open.

As the subject above hopefully makes clear, I want to do several reports, "with lots of fields not otherwise in database". These reports also have variable-length text. I have defined the following options (all users have Office 2000): 1. All Access solution. This appears to involve creating forms to enter data that is just put into a report, and never saved - an exercise in wasted development time, to my thinking. Also, the...

hi everyone, I've a USER table which contains USERNAME column. I try to keep usernames unique. When I'm adding I new user, I frist go to database and check if that username already exists and if no I add that user. As you see I went to database two times. Hi, I have an asp.net application which runs from a CD-ROM using Cassini. As such, it is single user only. The application connects to an Access database when it is loaded, and keeps the same connection open all the time (as it's single user, this shouldn't be a problem). There is logic in the code to ensure that the connection is

Hi, I'm new to ASP.net, SQL Server and visual studio.net, and I'm having problem inserting and storing data from a web form to a SQL database. I created a simple ASP.NET web form, a simple SQL database, a database connection (using the SQlDataSource Web Control from the Toolbox), and created the following stored procedure in Visual Studio.Net 2005:

Here is the piece of code that I'm using, please tell where I'm doing it wrong. Since this class is being used at many placed in my actual web based application that...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
