Need to use full path to linked tables

Hello,

I have a small problem that I hope someone can help with.

My Access 2000 database uses several tables and is split into BE and FE.

In the FE the tables are all linked to the BE but the file paths all seem to include the drive letter for the drive they are stored on. This is not a problem in our office as users all have the same drive mapped to the same drive letter, however the database is also to be used at another site where they have a different drive on a different server mapped to the same drive letter.

Is there a way to amend the file path to include the full path, ie:

\\Servername\Di rectory\Folder\ Database.mdb

rather than:

S:\Folder\Datab ase.mdb?

If not, would I have to update the links at the other office using LTM? I hope this is not the case as I don't have particular faith in users' abilities to do this unaided and I don't really want to have to go there to do it myself!

Hope someone can help.

Many thanks,

Olly

Sorry to waste your time, I have figured this out for myself.

It was obvious really - I needed to navigate through the network file system when updating the links rather than doing it through local file system.

Cheers.

UNC path = \\ServerName\Sh areName\Folder\ Database.mdb

Is the ServerName and ShareName that the users in the other office use the same as that available to you (It should be I expect)? If so then you can fix it at your office so that it uses the full UNC path instead of using the drive letter format (Using LTM). This should then work in both places.

It is. It's fixed. I feel rather silly now. I was updating the links using LTM but navigating to the db via the local file system rather than through the network.

Thanks NeoPa.

Not a problem Olly. I'm glad that helped.
Actually, though it seems obvious now it's been pointed out, it's not that obvious when you're doing it.

I changed from Access97 to AccessXP and I have immense performance problems. Details: - Access XP MDB with Jet 4.0 ( no ADP-Project ) - Linked Tables to SQL-Server 2000 over ODBC I used the SQL Profile to watch the T-SQL-Command which Access ( who creates the commands?) creates and noticed:

I have been given a database on a CD to do some work on. The only problem is that when I open a form it tells me that the file path //server/database/mydb.mdb is not valid. Of course it isn't valid the whole thing is on my comp at the moment and not even on a network. How can I change this path so that I can work on the database locally and change it back when I put the changes back? Thank you for any help.

Hello all, I am experiencing quite a strange phenomenon with mu Access 2000 db. I am using linked tables to link to a backend Access 2000 mdb. I recently moved the file to a file path which has over 120 characters and have found some strange problems. For instance, I am unable to open the table for viewing. When I select open I see the hourglass for a fraction of a second and then nothing happens. If I try to access the tables in a form...

I hope someone can help with this. I have a website using Access and ASP developed on my own PC (using PWS) and hosted on a commercial site. I decided that splitting the dbase up would be a good management tactic; it si easy to link from the main database and it works fine - on my own machine. Trouble is when I upload to the commercial host, it takes with it the

I am using Access 2003 and are linking to an Oracle 9i ODBC datasource (using Oracle ODBC drivers). After linking the tables in Access, I inspect the data contained in the linked tables. For tables that involve a number field as the primary key, the data is returned successfully. For tables that involve a character field (e.g. CHAR(3) or VARCHAR(10)) as the primary key, I have the correct number of rows returned, but the data displayed...

Hi, I have my front and back end database (they are in development) on a network drive. Everytime I start the database up I get #Error? on DLookup objects and such. This is solved by 'updating' the tables through the Linked Table Manager. The path is S:\databaseBE.mdb. Can I just not set the path to database.BE.mdb? Because when i distribute the database to others users, the back end database is going to be in the same folder as the...

I would be grateful if someone had a minute or two to review my hash table implementation. It's not yet commented but hopefully it's short and idiomatic enough to be readable. Some of the code (i.e. the get_hash function) is borrowed from various snippets I found on the net. Thee free function could probably need some love. I have been thinking about having a second linked list of all entries so that the cost of freeing is in proportion to...

Hi everyone, I am using Access 2003. I have a database with a table in it which is linked to an excel spreadsheet. When I install the database on someone else's system, the pathname to the excel file is different. Howwever, as it is in runtime on their system, I can't update the link using the Linked Table Manager. Is there a way of using a public constant to store a path which can be altered in advance and then combined with a...

Hello, I have created several pivot tables using external data for which I had to set up a new data source. The data source is a Microsoft Access database. I'm encountering a problem when trying to refresh the pivot tables from another user's computer, as they have a different drive letter mapped to the server where the Access database resides. I'm trying to get the data source to include the FULL path name (which begins with a server...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
