Access Deletes Query code

1 New Member
I'm an experienced mainframe programmer, but new to programming in Access. I have an application written in VBA that attempts to export the results of a query to an Excel spreadsheet using code like this -
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputQuery, qryCountView, "Microsoft Excel (*.xls)", strXLSOutputFileName, False
  2.
I have found on some occasions that the application falls over because the query code just seems to have disappeared. I cant find any repeatable set of circumstances that seem to cause this.
Clearly there are workarounds, such as running the query into a recordset then exporting that etc., but I really want to know if anyone has discovered a reason for this.
(Eddie Wang posted a similar question on November 13th, 2005 - Thread #22250 but didn't seem to get a satisfactory answer. Anyone found anything since?)

What do you mean by your query code disappears? You mean the query gets deleted? The query doesn't run correctly? Are there any error messages? Queries don't just disappear unless someone or some code is deleting them.

Hello, We are in the process of examining our current main application. We have to do some major changes and, in the process, are questionning/validating the use of MS Access as front-end. The application is relatively big: around 200 tables, 200 forms and sub-forms, 150 queries and 150 repports, 5GB of data (SQL Server 2000), 40 users. I'm wondering what are the disadvantages of using Access as front-end? Other that it's not...

Architecture: Access 2003 client, Oracle 9i repository, no Access security in place, ODBC linked tables. 100 or so users, in 3 or 4 groups (Oracle roles actually): Admins, Updaters and ReadOnly. Each group sees a different set of menu options when they open the client and login to Oracle. For the sake of speed I use pass-through queries here and there for updates and deletes. I update their SQL property in code and execute them.

The function or code below creates a saved query used as the record source for forms and reports. The funtions is called each time a user clicks on a button to display a form or report. This works just after security has been set for the user by cheching all options, which include delete, modify, append and administer. Security is being set on the tables, queries and forms. The second time the user clicks on the button that runs the...

How will Access fair in a year? Two years? .... The new version of Access seems to service non programmers as a wizard interface to quickly create databases via a fancy wizard. Furthermore, why would you even continue to use Access as a backend when you have a much superior option in SQL express? What about as a future front-end development tool? Let's get serious. Microsoft continues to publish numerous articles and videos on how you...

I'm working with an application that has an MS Access front end linked to the SQL Server DB backend. During a period of one week, 32 records of a spefic event (and all related records to that event) disappeared from both DBs. The application uses an Access report db for users to query for specialized data. Security is to the Access DB is limited to 3 db admins (2 IT, I departmental), and 1dept manager. The app's audit log is supposed to track...

How do I create one SELECT query in VB .NET that pulls from a SQL Server database and a MS Access database? The SQL server table has a unique identifier as a PK and the Access table has a autonumber (replication ID) as a FK, which matches the SQL table PK, so I know I can join them on this field. Currently, I am using SQLCommand to access only the SQL server data and DAO to access only the MS Access data. Is there a way to create a...

I am trying to run an Access query from Excel. The query, called "ProdActs1" works in Access and is run from using information from a table called "Queries". When a button is clicked in Excel, data currently in the table is deleted and new data is sent based on cell value on the Excel worksheet. So far, I can delete the old records and add new data. I just cannot seem to return results from the query "ProdActs1". Also, is it possible to specify...

Hi I am using Access 2003 mdb as a front end to an application which uses SQL Server 2000 as the backend. The two are connected using ODBC. On one particular table (the Stock table), I have a simple form which updates stock. When the user presses the delete key, he gets the usual warning about not being able to undo this command, and the record disappears from the screen. However, on some records, when he goes back into the form, the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
