I am using the MySQL ODBC 3.51 driver to link three relatively small MySQL
tables to a Microsoft Access 2003 database. I am finding that the data from
the MySQL tables takes a hell of a long time to load making any kind linkage
with my Access data virtually useless.
I have the MySQL driver setup in as a USER DSN. The MySQL data is sitting
out on a server and the Access database is running locally. The network
connection is very...

Situation: Access 2003 front-end, containing links to Access 2003, SQL
Server 2000, and DB2 tables. None of these tables are local.
Hardware: IBM ThinkCentre, 10/100 Ethernet LAN
Problem: Open a form or a report in Design mode, and bring up the Properties
dialog. Now as I try to move from one Property to another, it's like Access
is checking the entire recordsource of the form or report before moving the
cursor focus. It literally...

Is there a way to open an OLE DB database from within Access?
I would like to use the Access GUI with its table and query
explorer to examine a database only available through an OLEDB
provider interface.
I have seen several references on how to open an OLE DB
database through VBA/ADO code but I wouldn't know how to go
from there to actually have the database available in the
Access GUI...

i have found many refrences to access being slow over a netowrk but my
boss and i just found this and i was hoping to get some help.
on the local machine we have the Access 2000 format database open in
access 2k3. this is also the machine that the database lives.
we then from a tool bar in access call an external program to
manipulate the database. and the process time is about 5.5 minutes
then if we disable the network connection...

I'm using Access2000.
I have just designed a database which seems to be operating very slow on a
network. There are currently only a few records in it.
Should I be compacting it now before it gets busy with usage ?
The database has OLE bounded fields where pictures are linked to a network
folder where the pictures are kept. Will this linking of pictures to
respective records over time hinder the speed of the database ?

I am a complete idiot when it comes to access. Now that said, I work
for a computer security company and one of our customers came to us
with an access problem.
They had been running fine for a long time. Then about a month ago
there main server that hosted all the .mdb files crashed. So they
restored everything to a new server (I believe 2003 server).
Everything was fine for 2 weeks, then one morning they came in and the
queries were...

Several years ago I developed an Access 97 runtime application. I
have rewritten this application using Visual Basic 6 with an Access
2003 database. When I run the VB application with the database on the
same PC, the performance is good. When I move the database to a
different PC on my two PC network, the performance is slow. This is
not the case with the original Access 97 application; it performs fast
regardless of where the...

I've got a performance issue in Access 2000 running on Windows 2000.
Opening a table local to the MDB takes about 1-2 seconds normally. If
I log out of the windows profile that is normally used on the machine
and log into another windows profile, the same table in the same MDB
file takes 6 seconds to open. I have tried setting the subdatasheet
property to and turning autocorrect off, neither one changes
anything. Doing a compact/repair...

This is a new problem for me: I have some queries that open very
slowly in design view.
My benchmark query takes about 20 minutes to open in design view. That
same query takes about 20 minutes to open in datasheet view. As an
experiment, I deleted all rows in all tables; after that, the query
took only seconds to open in both design view and datasheet view. From
these facts, I conclude that Access is evaluating the query when I go
to...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
