Delete The .Lck File In Access2003 in Multiuser Environment

9 New Member
I created an access in access2003 , its being used in multiuser environment ..based on a particular value the database is
automatically closed and only i can change the value. Even after the database is closed the .ldb file exist .. Now I tried your code die.cfm from the following website http://evolt.org/node/3644 , not very sure how to use it , because with the .cfm extension its not getting executed , can you suggest how can i get it executed ?, Or should I create a false query within the database so that it throws the error , but then while running the query I have to login to the database that will create the lock file .. The os used is Win Xp and the file is placed on a common shared drive

The die.cfm is a ColdFusion file and can't be executed from Access.
The fact that a .ldb file resides after the database closure is no real problem.
It's very small and will always be re-created when the database is started again and it's missing, else it's re-used.

When you have a locking problem, there are other things to consider.

The problem that I am facing is I can not make any changes to the design if the .lck file is there .. I can copy the main database to a different location and do the required changes , but after making the changes I will not be able to replace the original file as Its being used and locked by the .lck file , at the same time I cannot provide a new database name to the 70users who are using it !.

The .ldb file can be deleted when no other users are using the database.
When the .ldb file can't be deleted in the explorer, then at least one user is still active..

The moment a user (or VBA code!) changes e.g. a form into design mode, the database will be locked exclusively for that user.

Did you already split the .mdb into a front-end and a back-end ?

Yes the ldb file can be there because of two reasons one as you mentioned when any user is logged in and 2nd when all users have logged out but the database was not closed properly , so the ldb file was not deleted automatically . Now in the same database I have got forms as Front end .

Hoping someonce can tell me what compatibility problems I might run into when I have to have my Access Project developed on Access2K run in a user environment where users are using Access2003 as well as Access2000. I have already seen a problem where if I open my project using Access2003 and save any objects, then run it on Access2000, I encounter "Bad DLL Calling Convention error..." on the Access2K machines. If I never open and save the...

I have inherited a bunch of dbs which are are shared among a small group in my dept. We typically use the dbs to write queries to extract data, usually dumping it into Excel. Most dbs originated in MsAccess 97 or prior and have been converted to 2003. On occassion user 1 will open a db. When user 2 opens the db it will not let user 2 modify macros and what not. I can understand this and realize we could split the db; it is not worth ...

Hi, we are in these days deploying a .NET windows app. The exe file is meant to be self-updating (custom built logic) by downloading newer versions when a new version is built. There is a problem however in cases where multiple users are running of the same .exe file, like in a terminal server environment. I have looked into using mutexes (http://www.jrsoftware.org/iskb.php?mutexsessions), but I don't think this

Hi All, I'm trying to use more data-adapters/data-sets in a project, because they are so awesome! Anyhoo, I want to use them with Stored Procedures, rather than raw SQL text. The hard part of working with SPs is passing the new values to the insert, update and delete stored procedures. I've figured out one way to do it, but was wondering if anyone else had any better ideas, as my way, although it works fine, means writing quite a lot...

I would appreciate any comment. I want MS Access to act as a reporting tool accessing Oracle tables. The Oracle database is populated by another database application, but this application cannot create the report I want in this situation. I can easily develop the application I need to create the report and I'd like to deploy this tool as a published application over Citrix so users can simply fireup Access, run the report and print.

I am new to VB.Net but since i have a good experience in VB6(having developed 2 to 3 desktop applications), i find no problem coping with the new environment at this stage. But as of now, i have not developed multiuser applications even in VB6. Now i want to get some advises before i move ahead. I want to know...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
