Search to see if the criteria field in a query has something in it

2 New Member
I am running Access 2003. I would like to be able to search the criteria section in an Access query to see if it populated with anything. I have a report database that has a list box and some questions to answer to run the report. They are mant diffenet reports and the criteria can be the same for some and differnet for others. Here is how the report db works:

On the form I have a multiple questions asked to fill in the criteria of the query and on the right side i have a list box that the user can double click the report (actually it is a macro) after the criteria has been entered. Can VB go look to see if there is something in the criteria section of the query field and if there is not grey out certain text boxes before they run the report so the user can't enter information in that certain test box.

Thank You

What you are wanting is theoretically possible by opening the query as a recordset in VBA, then parsing the query string for the words WHERE or HAVING. However, there is probably a much easier solution.

You can much more simply write the code to capture input or lack thereof from the textbox/control that is used to enter the criteria.

Scott

I am (still :) working on a recipe database. Now I am trying to figure out how to set it up for an ingredient search. What I want it to be able to do is to search by one ingredient, sometimes by two, and sometimes by three. There won't always be a second and third ingredient to search on. It will depend on how the user wants to search. The database set up with multiple tables mainly one for all the details related to the recipe and...

Hi. I'm very new to MS Access and have been presented with an Access database of contacts by my employer. I am trying to redesign the main form of the database so that a button entitled 'search' may be clicked on by the user and the user can then search all records by postcode. I want to do this to prevent duplicate data entry.

Is there any way to change the default search to "Any Part Of Field" instead of whole field? The first thing I ever do when searching for something in a field is change the default setting from "Whole Field" to "Any part of field" because that way I don't have to key in the entire word I'm searching for. It is especially frustrating having to explain this to all of the people using my database. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

hi, i have created a search form, and i want to search for a specific item in a field. e.g. i have a field called colour, which has record1 = 'red, blue, green' and another record2 = 'red' now, when i do the search, and only type in red, to search for red, it only brings back record 2, and not record 1 as well.

I'm somewhat new to Access, and have no VB experience at all (except for modifying existing code where obvious). I built a data entry form that works fine. Typically, a client will call in and the user has to find his record to add or modify existing data. Originally, I built the form based on a query with an input criteria for the last name and first name. The Last_Name critera is Like &"*" so that partial names will work. The...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
