Controlling Query criteria with combo box...please help

1 New Member
Hi,
I'm new to 2007. I am trying to control the criteria of a query with a combo box of values from another table.
Basically, I would like to call up all items in a catagory. Instead of having to memmorise all of the catagories to remember what to type in when I put [catagory?:] I would like a combo box to come up.

Please help, I have been trying for weeks to figure this out and am starting to get frustrated.

The catagory list is in its own table.

Thanks in advance

If you want to use a combo box I'm pretty sure you will need to use forms. I don't believe it is possible to turn the textbox of the "Enter Parameter value" popup into a combobox.

You can specify controls on a form in a query.
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. SELECT field1, field2
  2. FROM table1
  3. WHERE field1 = Forms!Form1!combobox1
  4.
This of course only works when the form is loaded otherwise you will be prompted for the value of Forms!Form1!com bobox1.

Notes
field1, field2 are fields in your table
table1 is your table
Forms is a collection of open forms.
Form1 is the name of the form you are referencing
combobox1 is the name of the control on your form.

I'm ready to pull the hair out of my head. I have a query with a couple of parameters that I want to get from combo boxes on a form. One parameter is a date with a dynamically calculated year and the other is criteria for a Yes or No field. I'll focus on the Yes/No field for simplicity. If I run the query with the criteria hard coded as either "YES" or "NO", it works. In the values of the combo box in my form, I have it set as...

Hi Everyone- I have a question about how to add and then use the "All" selection in a combo box. I am trying to figure out how to: (1) add "All" as a selection to a combo box and then (2) how to use the selection "All" as criteria for a field in a query, which is used to generate data for a report.

Hello, I have a database of employee data in access and I am trying to create a form with combo boxes for criteria (ex. gender, office, position, etc.) that let the user select criteria from drop down menus (ex. they may select Male, New York, Manager) and those criteria will be used to run a query (ie Query by Form). I can do this with text boxes but when I tried to use combo boxes no records were returned in the query. Any idea what...

Hi I'm using Acces 2003 I have Query where the several parameters for the criteria are supplied from a form. One parameter source is a combo box. What I am trying to do is if: An item is selected on the combo box then that value is used as the criteria If user does not want the contents of the combo box used, then Query should ignore that field. I have tried to do this with an iif statement in the query criteria and a control box on...

Hi all, Unfortunately I am quite a novice with Access!! I've created a number of data bases for my work however becuase my skills are limited to really built in functionality and wizards my programs are not really user friendly. I have searched and searched and tried numerous times to get the following right to no avail - and I think its really becuase of my lack of understanding.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
