Split Site with Slow Network = Slow Database :(

11 New Member
Hello!

I've developed an access database for a company split over two sites. The network connection is VERY slow between the two sites and therefore one set of users will be using a VERY slow database unless I come up with a solution.

They all need access to the same (live) tables at the same time.

Anybody have any ideas? It's making my head hurt.

Chris

PS I've already steamlined forms, queries, reports as much as I can..

There's not much you can do about a slow network connection from Access. Your problem is your hardware, not your software. And even then Access isn't network friendly no matter how you design everything. It's one of the flaws of Access.

I have a strange bandwidth issue that I have finally tracked down to something fairly specific if anyone has any ideas... Setup: Win2003 Server, PHP 4.3.4, IIS6.0, ISAPI Network: DSL line with a Cisco 678 router using NAT and static port maps. Two switches between webserver and Cisco. Problem: Accessing PHP driven site via any computer except the web server is about 20 times slower. I can get fast response on the server

I have developed a small database which is setup with the front end and backend files. There are 12 linked tables withe the datafile located on our server. Now the boss wants to be able to take a laptop offsite and still have access, (even if read only) to the main data file (to be able to add records in 1 table would also be useful). I would like to be able to get the user to press a command button which

I have a client that has a split database (front-end/back-end). They are also using Access security - MDW file. The front end MDE file, the back end MDB file, and the MDW file are all located on a shared folder on the file server. They have two populations of users - local and remote. *ALL* users currently get to the system via a Citrix login. They log in to Citrix and get a Citrix desktop. Then they start the application via a...

We have just put a new samba server on the lab premises and upgradede all workstations to 100 MB/s, in order to avoid using 10-mile radio link, hoping that this would enable us to operae our MsAccess based LIMS database over the network. While a standalone version, with both program and Data folder on the local drive (C) the application works excelently, the moment we move the Data ( e.i. the Tables) folder to a networked drive and...

I am a complete idiot when it comes to access. Now that said, I work for a computer security company and one of our customers came to us with an access problem. They had been running fine for a long time. Then about a month ago there main server that hosted all the .mdb files crashed. So they restored everything to a new server (I believe 2003 server). Everything was fine for 2 weeks, then one morning they came in and the queries were...

Hello, my task is the following: Input are tables with fields containing strings where the strings are actually delimited lists. For example, one field could contain 'AB|CD|EF|GH' I've written code that reads the input table and writes to an output table with each delimited list parsed out. So if the delimited list has 4 entries, 4 output records are created, corresponding to the one input record.

I have created an access database to allow us to enter the data from a short survey we did at work.. we only need this for less than a week to allow us to do the entry, so it doesn't need any security and I have not set any up (except that we all have login ids and passwords to get onto the network) I split the database into a front end (data entry form) and a back end (data table).. so that all three of us in the office can work on...

I've read several posts on this problem, since it's happening to me right now. Can't seem to get rid of this. Using A2K2 on a large XP network. PC front ends linked to a backend on a shared folder on server. Things worked great for a while (couple of months), and then last month I suddenly lost the ability to make changes to forms or code, getting the exclusive access warning. This happens even when no one is on the backend through...

Both has the same version of mysql installed... To summarized, both machine has the same configuration except...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
