database - what else

Folks,

I'm looking to build a database for my local drama group to sell tickets on
line, now I'm falling at the first hurdle as I need a sort of spreadsheets
view not a table view. So row A would be tickets 1 to 22, B 1 to 22 etc. Any
ideas how I could replicate this as I would want a single recurred in A1, A2
etc.

Help appreciated.

TblRow
RowID
RowNumber

TblSeat
SeatID
RowID
SeatNumber

TBlEvent
EventID
EventDate
EventDescriptio n

TblEventTicket
EventTicketID
EventID
SeatID
PatronFirstNane
PatronLastName

To get your "spreadshee t" view you need a crosstab query that includes
TblEventTicket, TblEvent, tblRow and TblSeat. To create a crosstab query
opento the database window, go to Queries, select New and select Crosstab
Query. Then follow the instructions. You would set a criteria for the
EventID field to display the tickets sold for a selected event. Rows would
be RowNumber, Column would be seat and Value would be a calculated field in
your query to dispay what you want in each "cell of the spreadsheet".

Well, Steve... many words have been used here to describe you, but
"brilliant" isn't often one of them, so that ought to give you a glow of
pride. Congratulations on getting such a response.

To receive such an assessment from Tony should "warm the cockles of your
heart." Of course, it would be provable that it had actually been posted
had it been linked rather than copied.

I'm sure I would disagree with Tony if the implication was that your
technical answers are _always_ correct, because I've seen quite a few of
them corrected in recent times. On the other hand, providing answers rather
than just trolling for business is a step in the right direction!

Why are you trying to hold me up to a perfect standard? Even frequent
responders like Tony Toews, Allen Browne, Douglas Steele, Marshall Barton
and yes, Larry Linson occasionally error. I guess they are only human but
you want me to be more than that!

You are whining about something I didn't do. The "poor, poor pitiful me"
role doesn't become you.

No one is trying to hold you up to a perfect standard, far from it. We are
just trying to get you to meet the minimum standard for decent behaviour in
these newsgroups by having you stop your solictiation.

I had some code that worked fine for several weeks, and then yesterday it stopped working. I'm not sure what I did. Nor can I make out why it isn't working. I'm running a query that should return 3 items from the database. I then get a count of the return, which correctly tells me that I've got 3 items. I then go into a for loop which I expect to loop 3 times and print out the 3 items. Here is where things get strange: it loops 3 times and...

I posted before, but have now narrowed my problem down to this method. At the start of the method, I test to make sure that I have a resource, a pointer to data returned from a database. This test is coming back true, so the next line runs, which attempts to get the next row from the dataset. This brings back nothing. On the queries I'm running right now, the first row will be fetched, but then no further rows. If I expect 20 rows back, I...

You may be wondering why you would want to put your files “into” the database, rather than just onto the file-system. Well, most of the time, you wouldn’t. In situations where your PHP application needs to store entire files, the preferred method is to save the file onto the server’s file-system, and store the physical location of the file in your database. This is generally considered to be the easiest and fastest way to store files. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
