What do you mean by not having exclusive access? If you mean you don't have security permission to do so then no, that's the whole point.

No I mean, I have 17 users in three different states using the database. If any one is in the database besides me I can not make design changes. The error message says you do not have exclusive access. I am not talking about security rights, I am the administrator.

Sorry, I misunderstood the question.

Normally you would make your changes on a copy of the database which is why using a frontend/backend system is usually the best way to go.

You can make your changes to a copy of the frontend and simply replace it without affecting the data which is located in the backend.

You will have to get all other users to log off the database while you make design changes.

We recently converted our department wide shared Access97 database to Access2K. We used to be able to open various reports in design mode and make changes to the design (or create new reports) even while other users in this shared database might be using other, unrelated reports. Now, in Access2k, it appears that whenever you do not have exclusive access, you cannot make any design changes to reports. It seems that the presence of any...

I am an experienced C++ programmer with over 12 years of development, and I think I know C++ quite well. I'm changing jobs at the moment, and I have about a month between leaving my last job and starting my new one. In that time, I have decided to learn C#. I picked up the book, "Programming C# (4th Edition)" recently and have read most of it. I've written about 1,500 lines of C# now, and I've run into the first really ugly thing I...

My company has expressed a desire to convert an existing MS Access application to a full VB.NET application. My experience is with VB6 so I want to ask a few questions and get some input on the best way to handle the following design: Situation: We want to allow our customers to install with one of the following options: 1. Use an Access MDB file as the data backend. 2. Use a SQL Server backend. (Either MS SQL, or MySQL) 3. Use an...

Hi all, I have a design question: I have a bunch of users (name, address, zip, etc.). They are assigned a card with a specific id. The only thing unique is this card id, or probably the combination of all other user fields. So it's seductive to use the card id as the primary key. This card allows access to certain places and all access is logged.

I have written a script and I would like to ensure that the script is never run more than once at any given time. What is the best way of testing and exiting if there is another version of this script running somewhere on this machine? I guess what I'm asking is how to handle system processes the way I can in shell. I am running this on linux.

Hey all, I've been pouring through hundreds of forums recently and finally decided that I should get in on the action. I am trying to update some forms and reports, also some minor back end changes, to a database that is shared by approximately 20 people. I make these updates every 2 weeks or so. How the database is set up is that there is a front end and a back end on the network. All of the users create their own shortcut to the frontend...

This is a new problem for me: I have some queries that open very slowly in design view. My benchmark query takes about 20 minutes to open in design view. That same query takes about 20 minutes to open in datasheet view. As an experiment, I deleted all rows in all tables; after that, the query took only seconds to open in both design view and datasheet view. From these facts, I conclude that Access is evaluating the query when I go to...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
