Track changes to records updated using an update query

5 New Member
I know how to track changes when they are done using a form.

Can they also be tracked if I run an update query?

Only if you run the update query in code or add something to the query to update a field in the same table.

Only if you run the update query in code or add something to the query to update a field in the same table.

My initial idea was to create a "history" table with the fields would be RecID, FieldChanged, OldValue, NewValue.

We have a table with more then 2 million records and every week I have to download from our Head Office a table that has new records and changes to existing records.

The table has 21 fields and 19 of them can be changed by the update query.

Can you help me with the code for the update query?

Thanks

I have a DataGrid web control which I've dynamically populated with template columns to be used for bulk-editting. Generally, all of the columns are textbox and/or dropdownlist child controls. Currently everything is working. I can find the updated rows/columns by parsing the posted data collection against the DataGrid DataSource. However, when there is a large amount of DataGridItems (rows) the update processing can take a while. ...

Here's one that should probably have the sub-heading "I'm sure I asked this once before, but ...". Two users are both looking at the same data, from a database. One user changes the data and commits it. How does the other user get the updated view without polling for changes? Is there some sort of callback mechanism that can be set up on the dataset or connection? TIA

I have a new system Im building that stores entries of what people are searching for on my sites. I want to be able to keep records of how many times a keyword was searched for daily, and from that I can calculate weekly and monthly. At this point I have one entry per search phrase with the number of hits the search phrase has gotten, and the last time it was updated. As I start to take the program out of testing and move in more...

Hi, I've got an import procedure working, using a standard import specification to import a .csv file into a temporary table. The problem i'm having is that i have 4 different sets of borrower details on the same line e.g. B1-Title, B1-Initials, B1-Surname, B2-Title, B2-Initials, B2-Surname, etc. all linked to my main borrower table via an unique account number. My 1st append query matches which account numbers are new to the main...

Hey all, As part of an access application, I am importing data from an XML file into a table, then using an update query to process the imported data into various other tables in the database where it belongs. I have the queries running fine, but I cannot for the life of me find out how to, from a VB code perspective, get the number of records that will be updated (or were updated) by a query. I'm trying to make something similar to the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
