Let's say I have an html form with 20 or 30 fields in it. The form
submits the fields via POST to a php page which updates a table in a
database with the $_POST vars. Which makes more sense?
1) simply UPDATING the values for all fields in the table, whether or
not any particular field has actually changed
2) running a second SELECT statement and comparing the $_POST vars to
the returned values, and only UPDATING those that have...

Hello everyone,
I have a bond form that a user uses to enter data.
One of my fields, is PolicyNumber. I added some code on the Before
Update event of txtPolicyNumber that checks to see if that policy
number is in the system when entering a new record. If it is, I want
it to display a message and go back to the policy number field.
I've tried this code on a policy number that is not in the table and it

Hi,
I have an aspx page with a number of web controls on it and one of these is
a cancel button. I want to check the page to see if the user has changed any
of the controls, i..e typed some text in a textbox, changed a dropdown etc
The reason I want to do this is when the user clicks cancel I want to notify
them that their changes will be lost using a popup or something.
My question is what is the best way to compare the page that...

Scott Mitchell published an article (on the 4GuysFromRolla site) on
checking whether data has changed on a page before allowing a user to
leave the page.
I have used his solution and created a class, ClientSidePage, which
inherits system.web.ui.page.
In my main page (with the fields to be checked) I have used inherits
ClientSidePage. When I try to run the main page none of the normal
events (like page_load) can be found as if it isn't...

I am inserting data into user table which contains 5 fields, sounds simple
enough normally but 2 of the fields are designated as UNIQUE. If someone
does enter a value which already exists, how do I capture this specific
error?
Would it make more sense to actually run a SELECT query first and if that
returned a result, then I use that for error checking and don't run insert
until select returns nothing?
Cheers

I recently developed a compact function to efficiently allow users to change info in a form (like account info, contact info, etc.) and then the function automatically identifies what's changed and scans the database to find out where to change it. Basic concept is form is populated from an object from mysql tables, user changes fields (usually few - not for creating new accounts), $_POST is compared against an array/object with current field...

I've been working on concurrency checking for an application I'm building, and a minor part of it has me slightly stumped.
I've got a DetailsView that populates from an ObjectDataSource, using business objects with optimistic concurrency checking built in in my Save() method (against a timestamp column). This can be proven to work perfectly in the following scenario:
- Start app, go to the DetailsView page (defaults to readonly), open a...

I am trying to check if notes have been added to a Memo field on a form if certain other fields have changed. Example: If the user ticks a particular check box on the form, I want to force them to add some note detailing the change before the will be allowed to save the record.
I have the checks on the other fields working. What I can't seem to find an effective method for is checking whether the user has added notes to the Memo field on the...

Hi to all,
I have a page that inserts excel sheet to access database. I am using asp. What I want to do is to check the inserting record if it is in the database. Basicly checking the dublicate record.
My code inserts records one by one using addnew-updatebatch. If there is a duplicate in the db, it will display "already exists" and if it is not in the db it will display "record added".
Below is my asp code I found on the net and...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
