Master form with Data Entry Subform problem

1 New Member
Hi, about to go nuts - I have a master form with 3 control buttons, user picks 1 for Const. job, 2 for Envir job and 3 for Geo job. Each button opens a subform containing the project number from master form. The subform is basically a data entry form with a couple of pull down selections for the user to choose. The choices made on the subform auto fill a field called "New Project No" - That new number is compiled from the user choices, like J1-07-1-XXX. The last XXX part of the proj number is the next sequential number handed out by an auto number field of a table which contains the info the user has selected on the subform. That part works great- can generate the new number. I do not need to store the new number is the table that generates the next number. What I do need to do, is somehow get that newly compiled number "transferre d" - updated or requeryied somehow back onto the master form in a text field called "New Project Number". I have literally driven myself nuts trying every possible thing ! I'm no expert, but have a working knowledge of Access. What am I doing wrong ? I tried a control button on the subform named "click to Export new Number to Project Opening Form" in the properties I set the "On Click" macro to take value of subform!NewProj ectNo and place it on the master ProjectOpeningF orm, it says form is not open..... I've tried creating a query and doing a requery but I'm lost... ANY help is appreciated ! It's such a simple task, and driving me nuts that I can't get it ! Help :)

Wow.
Your question is a little hard to follow, but I think I've got an approximation of what you want. Check out post #5 of Resetting automatic File Number at start of new year and tell me if this would solve your problem. It means doing things a little differently, but is possibly a better fundamental approach than the one you're using.
Your details are likely to be different but the concept should be the same if I understand correctly what you're trying to say.

Hi, I made up a nice little form which had its own sub form in it. I made a litle VB code so that when I pressed a button it would move form the form (frmConference) to the subform (frmBookingBookingBased), start a new record, and copy some values form the form into some fields in the subform, and then leave the cursor sitting (in...

Hi, I am working on a genealogy form. The only table (so far) lists everybody in the family, one record per person. Each record has an autonum ID. The parent form (frmMainForm) displays the data in each record, which includes the ID of the father and the mother (who also have records in the table). One record per form. I have a Tab...

This is probably an incredibly newbie-ish question. I just haven't had the cause to use many subforms before, so I'm pretty sure I just don't understand it correctly (even after reading up on it). I have a relationship set up that is used to track the hours an employee has worked on each project during the week. I'm trying to set up a...

Let me preface: I'm a novice, and have no programming experience. I have created an access database and have a few tables in it. I have created a form called "clients" This form opens up and has alot of basic client information in it, nothing fancy, no code (other than what access has put in). I have created a second form "newVisit" ...

I have a main form with a subform and a second subform nested to the first subform. The data entry property for all three forms (main, subform and sub-subform) is set to "yes" because I am intending this form to be used for data entry only. The main form has a combo box from which the user can select a lake. The first subform allows the user to...

Hi, I have a 2 subform form, which uses the selection of a row in subform 1 to show a set of rows in subform 2. I have my queries pointing directly to fields on my form to choose what data is shown. However, when I first populated this form with my subforms, I was dumb (apparently) and had it accidentally pick "List_ID" as my...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
