Hi folks,
I'm relatively new to Access, but I seem to have drawn the short straw, so I have the assignment for my workplace of looking for problems/inconsistencies in migrating applications to Access 2007 from previous versions. We don't have a lot of Access applications, but even a dozen or so can be an interesting challenge. I have loaded a few that were created in Access 2003 into Access 2007 and all of the ones I have tried have come up with missing references to acwzmain.mde and acwztool.mde.
The Access 2003 installations I have looked at have those databases (containing useful stuff) as part of the installation, but the one installation (mine) of Access 2007 that I have examined does not appear to have them. (I have also found missing references to vidtc3.ocx, Mscomct2.ocx and there will probably be others as I proceed.) I did find one other query posted at another site regarding these (acwzmain and acwztool being missing in Access 2007, but no responses.)
Have others of you seen the same thing? The applications seem to work after I remove the references to them. The wizards (at least the ones I have checked) are still there and operating, but the question is just one of transferring the apps to 2007. Is this the expected behavior?
If it isn't, then I suppose it would indicate that I had a problem with installing Office 2007, and it would be worth knowing that. So far, I have not seen enough installations of it to know for sure that I've got it right or wrong.
If the missing references are the norm, then that's fine with me. I will need to warn everybody who plans to move applications from XP boxes to their new Vista boxes with Office 2007 and I can live with this, but I suspect there will be a lot of people who are going to be very confused. It's my job of the moment to try to reduce that confusion, so I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone else who has taken Access applications created under 2003 (or earlier) and tried to run them under Access 2007.
I imagine other people are going to need to know about this, so even without any specific advice, I'm sure that a few responses here would go a long way toward confirming or disconfirming that we should or should not expect to run into those missing references with (nearly) every Access application moved to Vista.
I have found (and to at least some extent found workarounds for) some other issues that seem to be pervasive. At this stage, I still am not positive whether they are actually pervasive or whether any or all of them are mainly artifacts of my own installation, but my guess is that at least some of them will turn out to be "real". I don' t know whether anyone else is going to be interested in the problems/challenges of migrating to Access 2007, but I would be interested in participating in discussions of the topic if anyone cares.
Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul
When you move applications from an earlier version of Access to a newer version then you can run into the problem of Missing References. It just means that it's needs to be pointed to the newer version of the libary. I don't know what implications Vista will have on this.

Hi all,
I've just upgraded to Access 2000 and it seems that all the wizards do
not work. I get error messages saying that they are not installed.
I've already done the following:
1. Uninstalled and re-installed
2. Checked for presence of acwzmain.mde and acwztool.mde
3. re-registered the dao files

How will Access fair in a year? Two years? .... The new version of
Access seems to service non programmers as a wizard interface to
quickly create databases via a fancy wizard. Furthermore, why would
you even continue to use Access as a backend when you have a much
superior option in SQL express?
What about as a future front-end development tool? Let's get serious.
Microsoft continues to publish numerous articles and videos on how you...

I've been clicking around Access 2007 Beta 2 and can't see the custom
menu bar designer. Is it in the beta? Maybe I'm blind. The question
that comes to mind is: Will custom menu bars be the same height as they
were in previous versions or will they be the "ribbon" style that takes
up a huge portion of the screen?
Also when I use Access 2007 to open an Access 2003 database that has
custom menu bars they display as they did in Access...

Hi,
I started having problems with a db that had previously worked where my
switchboard would not work. I tried some suggestions to fix to no
avail.
However I am now finding more and more ominous things that are worrying
me - if anyone had any suggestions it would be great.
In any DB in the VBA window I always have 3 projects listed on the left

A client of mine likes some of the new bells and whistles in Access 2007,
and is thinking about converting our A03 format MDB to an A07 format file.
However, while some of the users have A07, many do not, and it's not clear
when they would get it. His thought was to use the upcoming Access 2007
runtime to allow the users who are still running Office 2003 to be able to
run the database.
While I use multiple versions of Access on my...

Hi !! I'm about to develop a new project for a client.
Should I go about it in Access 2003 or 2007 ? Purchasing it either
for me or for my client is not a major consideration here ... what I'd
like to know is the stability, speed & ease of use of both the
products.
I believe Access 2007 has a new file format too and that it may be
slower.

First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
