Foreign Key

Dear all,

I m stuck in assigning foreign keys to a primary key.
I have a primary table with many foreign keys, for example, I have a
primary table (ID, Category(pk)) and each category has its own table
because each category has its own feilds and if i make one table for
all categories, there, some fields will be blank for some categories.
When I create relationship between the primary and child tables, it
works. But Now, when i open the primary table and want to expand for
the category information it asks me to choose master and child fields
and i can only choose one table as a child table (subdatasheet).

HOW CAN I VIEW ALL THE CHILD TABLES AS A SINGLE SUBDATASHEET?

I hope you people got the

thank you people in advance

farhaad,

Data being put into a single field should not come from more than one
table. You can't relate a field to more than one other field in one
other table. It sounds more like you need to re-think the design of
your tables. Perhaps an idea of how you've structured them could help
someone point out a better way to do it. Otherwise do some reading on
normalization and see if you can modify them to work better for you.

I just installed the 4.1.0-alpha-max-nt version of MySql and have just started playing around with it. My first test was to try to create a couple of tables, one with a foreign key constraint. I can't seem to figure out how to drop the foreign key constraint, I read through the docs and it says I need to do a 'show create table <table_name>' to get the internally generated foreign key id, but this does not show up when I do the show...

The table creation script(at the end of this post) works fine on 4.0.1-alpha-win, but the foreign key constraints fail on 4.0.15-win. I am starting the server with the same command for both versions: mysqld-max-nt --console --transaction-isolation=SERIALIZABLE In 4.0.15-win I can extract the following error after I run the table creation script: ERROR 1005: Can't create table '.\ibdata\#sql-a14_3.frm'

I'm having an argument with an incumbent self-taught programmer that it is OK to use null foreign keys in database design. My take is the whole point of a foreign key is that it's not supposed to be optional, it's very definition is it's a necessary link to the parent table and part of the definition. If it's optional it shouldn't be part of the definition of a table and should be in a linking table instead. Comments?

Hi there, I should point out I am very new to MySql, im trying to learn what I can. Basically im using Navicat to work with my databases. When making a foreign key, i am asked to enter the following details.... Foreign Key Name, Field Name, Reference Table, Foreign Field Names, On Delete, On Update. Now.. i don't understand why I have to specify a 'Foreign Key Name', as I thought this would be the equivalant to the 'Field Name' (which...

How can you indicate that a FOREIGN KEY constraint references two columns in two different tables? "SQL Server Books Online" show an example of how to reference two columns in the SAME table: REFERENCES ref_table ) Here is the error and the 'bad' SQL code: Server: Msg 8148, Level 16, State 1, Line 4

I've got a problem which I think may be a bug in Postgres, but I wonder if I'm missing something. Two tables, A & B have foreign key relations to each other. A 3rd table C, inherits from A. A stored procedure updates a row in C, adds a row each in B & C. I get an integrity violation. All the foreign keys are deferrable, and the stored procedure is called from within a transaction with constraints deferred. (And the foreign keys do refer to...

Hi, I am trying to deal with a deadlock situation caused by foreign key references on insert and I was wondering if anyone knows what order the foreign keys are locked (or evaluated) in for a particular table? Deferring the locks is unfortunately not a good option for me... Thanks, Shawn ---------------------------(end of broadcast)--------------------------- TIP 5: Have you checked our extensive FAQ?

I have created a database with about 17 tables. I have been creating foreign keys some of which have worked but when creating others I get the message below ************************* 1005 (ER_CANT_CREATE_TABLE) Cannot create table. If the error message refers to errno 150, table creation failed because a foreign key constraint was not correctly formed.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
