Making trial version...

2 New Member
Hi everyone ! I would like to make unbreakable trial version of my project in MSAccess2000 or later. I devide project in two basic parts: DB part (.mdb) and application (buisiness logic) part (.mde). I've made automatic instalation, but I'm not satisfied about protecting the apllication. I want to make secure trial instalation of product depending on time of using it. Can you help me to choose some of good ways of making such apllications in VB? Thank you...

OK, I put the password over the DB file (mdb) using some unusual characters, but that is not worring for me. App. file (mde) was created with AllowBypassKey( ...,FALSE) just because to prevent others to use Access enviroment over the application, but I know that the experience users can easy remove this property, link the tables, queries...so i feel a bit insecure. On the other side, thinking about the trial version i was planing to use registry entry during instalation, and making ordinary text file witch I'll be station somewhere on the file system with "uncognizab le" content indicating the trial period of using application. Those information I can control through the application, but, you know, those informations can be descover...What do you think about this ? ...and I would like to implement some stronger and wiser protection, and control the trial period at the instalation instant from inside of application. Do you have any suggest? Best wishes and thank you...

This is really a problem. You cannot prevent an advanced user from directly access the tables in the backend database, even if it is password protected (by importing linked tables from the frontend database). Not mentioning that MSAccess database password can be easily discovered with some applications ...
So If you find any solution for that pls let us know :)

Is there a trial version available for download on the net anywhere? I see on the MS web site that I can get a trial version of VStudio.Net but I am really just interested in VB on it's own. What I really want to know or check in a trial version is that VB.Net Std has a similar capabilities to VB 6 Professional which I used to use as part of Visual Studio 6. I never (hardly ever) used any of the extra stuff from VStudio 6, but to get...

Yes, I was stupid not to put files on disk, and or realize that my version was a trial. Somehow I didn't read the fine print. I saved many files on my trial version of Microsoft Work Word Processor. When I try to access them I get error message wkswp.exe application error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142) click on ok to terminate the application. I realize I need to buy another perm. version. I just want to...

Good evening all, I have written a single file program in Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition that I need to build with a Trial Period. I have built in a simple check the date procedure; but anyone can get around that. Does anyone know how I can write back to the program file so that the software self destructs or becomes unusable after a particular date is reached even if the person sets the date back a month or two? I...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
