updating similar fields in Access tables simultaneously

1 New Member
may somebody help me, i am working on an access database and my tables have related fields. i want these fields to update at once after updating one of them..the fields have formulas, so i would like them to update at the same time, avoiding the situation where i would have to update fields one by one.

I'm afraid your question's not very clear, but if you look under Relationships (Tools / relationships.. .) you may be able to set what you want up there (Cascading Updates & Deletes).

Let's say I have an html form with 20 or 30 fields in it. The form submits the fields via POST to a php page which updates a table in a database with the $_POST vars. Which makes more sense? 1) simply UPDATING the values for all fields in the table, whether or not any particular field has actually changed 2) running a second SELECT statement and comparing the $_POST vars to the returned values, and only UPDATING those that have...

Hi everybody- I'm helping a friend with a music database. She has an old one and is creating a new one. She wants to compare records and fields in the old database with records and fields in the new database. For instance, her old database has a table with Band Info in it. Her new database also has a table with Band Info in it but slightly different. I was wondering if there was an easy way to compare the fields from similar tables in...

I have two tables with identical structures, the first holds the data input for a questionnaire, the second holds the scores from the questionnaire, to move the scores I've set up 2 action queries, the first appends the record to the second table, the second action query 'updates' the results by...

I am non-programming scientist and I am using a Program called Easyarticles from Synaptosoft Inc., which is based the database program Access. Unfortunately, the owner of this company has disappeared even though his website still functions. As the program requires updating, I was wondering whether anyone has any suggestions, as to what I should do. The program allows you to search a public database called PubMed. You can mark abstracts...

Hi I'm hoping somebody can help me with the following problem that has occurred to me. Suppose I have two tables in an SQL Server database. Let's call these tables A and B. Assume that A has two fields: a primary key and another holding a string. In table B there are three fields: a primary key, a foreign key (which links to the primary key in A) and other field holding a string.

Hiya, How do i retreive fields with similar values from 2 tables? I tried to use (1) "SELECT * FROM $table1 as o , $table2 as p WHERE o.name like '%p.name%'"; but it retrieves nothing at all. (2) "SELECT * FROM $table1 as o , $table2 as p WHERE o.name like p.name";

I have an application which contains an Access database with linked tables that point to another database within the application. The problem I have is that when the user installs the application, I need to update the table links so that the paths are correct for the install directory. Is there an easy way to accomplish this? I'd really like to avoid duplicating the data in the linked tables, but if updating the links is too much work,...

I have three tables: Courses (Key is Autonumber Course Number, also have Text Course Name); Instructors (similar fields); and Courses and Instructors (have a combination of the four fields). Currently, if I manually select the course from the drop-down box, the Course Number, and the same with the Instructor fields, then I can save the record. If the Course Number doesn't match the Course Name, though, I'm out of luck. What I really...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
