MS Access automation using VB6

2 New Member
hello guys,

im using VB6 to automate Access 2000 using opencurrentdata base. basically, the VB part is just for login purposes and all other forms are in Access. i want to prevent the user from opening multiple instances of Access, so i disabled the buttons (except for Quit button) in the login screen. the problem now is when i close Access, i cant figure a way to enable the buttons again. the GotFocus event of the login screen, where i coded to enable the buttons, doesnt seems to occur. how do i resolve this? or do you have any other suggestions to prevent opening multiple instances of Access?

Has anyone had any problems with inter-office automation between MS Word and MS Access in Office 2003? I have recently installed office 2003 in a new folder and have left the older office 2000 and office XP components installed. ie I have word/access/excel 2k/xp/2003 installed. I tried to do a usual access 2k to word 2k automation yet I get the error "Automation Error" "ClassFactory cannot supply requested class" when on late binding try...

I need a VB 6 app to automate a microsoft access MDB application. Specifically, it needs to open a form in Access and read information keyed into that form. I know this is "old school" but I'm thinking about something like we used to do using DDE. Any ideas would be great

I have been working on an Access app that takes info from a file and writes it to a spreadsheet on a form, simultaneously saving the spreadsheet to Excel. I got the idea that the same concept could work in reverse, i.e. we have a cost model written in Excel that calculates the profitability of customer accounts based on several inputs and they need to be updated at least once per year. These cost models sit on lots of people's hard...

Hello, We are in the process of examining our current main application. We have to do some major changes and, in the process, are questionning/validating the use of MS Access as front-end. The application is relatively big: around 200 tables, 200 forms and sub-forms, 150 queries and 150 repports, 5GB of data (SQL Server 2000), 40 users. I'm wondering what are the disadvantages of using Access as front-end? Other that it's not...

This is the approach I used to automate printing of Microsoft Access reports to PDF format i.e. unattended and without annoying "Save As..." dialogs, and - more importantly - without having to use a commercial program such as Adobe Acrobat and its associated API. The technique uses Ghostscript and Redirection Port Monitor - two free programs for creating PDF documents provided free by Russell Lang. The actual automation requires VBA...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
