When design a class, should always make it "derivable" as a base class? Is
there really a situation that the designed class not "derivable"?
When should make a member "protected"? Only when allowing the derived
class(es) directly access it?
Should destructor always be virtual?
Thanks for your comments!

Hi all,
Having problems designing a template-class. I'll describe my scenario
first then show what I've come up with so far:
Need a class to provide pointer/array-like access to an area of physical
memory
located on a piece of custom hardware - this memory is only accessible
using machine specific i/o so I want to hide all this in a class. I'm
imagining

I am an Access developer working mostly with Access as front-end to ms
sql server databases.
I am now leaving traditional asp for asp.net and I am fashinated by all
the new possibilities.
I am also thinking about using Visual studio dot net in the very
future.
Last evening however I thought about whether it is possible to develop
an unbound form i Access 2003 in such a way that it is possible to use
the same code when I design a...

Hi All,
I am designing an application in MS Access for a grocery store to store
daily report information. I am stuck in implementation of Lottery
sales for the store. I have stored the lottery information in two
tables. First table (tblLottery) consists of lottery ID, Name,
EffectiveDate, and Price and second table (tblLotteryDetail) consists
of SalesID, EndingNumber. I would like to create a form in which it
will look at the...

I am having trouble designing the tables and establishing relationships
for a survey database for the purpose of evaluating speakers for a
variety of events. After every event, the attendants are asked to fill
out an anonymous survey assessing the overall effectiveness of the
seminar (on a scale of 1-10) in addition to giving a 1-10 rating for
each speaker and associated content at the event. I'd like to set it
up so that I can enter in...

Hi everyone,
Having learnt a little about the basics whilst creating my first db I
am now about to start creating a good one!
I am about to sit down with a large piece of paper and plan it all
properly but I have some questions about logistics I wondered if anyone
could help with.
1. Can I put command buttons on a table or query?

Hi All,
I'm having quite a bit of trouble designing a search tool to work with
my database. I have found lots of examples from Microsoft Templates
to Allen Browne's sample search form. The latter looks very
promising, but I need to incorporate a combo box with "Nurse Care
Managers" and have it filter by this. (Right now, I'm being asked to
enter a parameter value and I can't figure out how to fix this.)
I need to be able to search...

What sorts of things should I look out for if I'm designing a webpage
specifically for use on mobile phones or PDA's? Obviously smaller is
better (in terms of the overall page) but there's probably a lot more to
this.
I have an example of my first attempt at:
http://swiftys.org.uk/shopping.html
This is simply a non-functioning capture of the page, showing how far I
haven't got.

Hi to all.
Little introduction on what I'm trying to do:
I'm in charge of creating an access database for our supervisor where
they can grade their agents.
Per ex: agents are talking to customers and the supervisor is
listening to their conversation (and grading them as per a specific
template)
What I've done so far:
Created Tables for the entry of:

ONU (Optical Network Unit) is one of the key components for providing high-speed Internet services. Its primary function is to act as an endpoint device located at the user's premises. Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
