A97 + Vista - need "permanent" admin privilege

Using only Access 97. Need to run as admin in order to use Tool /Compact,
etc. Tried Allen Browne's suggestion about registry hack meant for multiple
versions of Access, but doesn't seem to work for "version 8.". (Still get
Error 75: Path/File access error) Users have been using desktop icons
pointing to specific .mdb. Although "Run as Administrator" is available for
short-cut to msaccess.exe, it is grayed out when specific mdb is added to
Target line. Starting access from a short-cut to a "Run as Administrator"
batch file works, but Command Prompt box shows too, which can be confusing.
Any ideas?

I vaguely recall from one of the PDC 05 sessions (perhaps transacted
registry) that there is a way in Vista to set up a copy of the
registry that spoofs a program into thinking it has admin rights yet
leaves the actual registry intact. Maybe this can be done at the OS
level. Sorry I can't remember more. I'm about 80% done going through
the many Gigs and many hours of PDC 05 information. I'd like to get
done with it all before PDC 07 :-).

Aah ... the magic of Microsoft ...
"a copy of the registry that spoofs a program into thinking it has
admin rights"
Well, sure! We all should have thought of that.

I took delivery of a new Dell-Vista beast last week. The complaints
I've read in CDMA and elsewhere have been minor when compared with the
WAB problems I've encountered. It seems that Vista don't got no WAB.
And it seems that a lot of programs look for and use the WAB,
silently, down deep. (WAB = Windows Address Book)
Oh well, it's something to which everyone can look forward. And my
wife hasn't complained. She has a bright new shiny Dell-Vista computer
now.
Did I mention the one hour of uninstalling the crap that Dell puts on
their computers? And Vista's default printer?

Henceforth, I'm building my own.

Mutter, mutter, mutter ....

Maybe I'm dense here, but shouldn't I be trying to "fool" the o/s, not the
program, about the rights? What little I saw about a transacted registry
when I googled sounds like this is all available at a developer level that
Access 97 would not be able to do. Still trying to not do the obvious and
disable the UAC yet...

Hi. Thru a sproc, I drop & re-create some temp tables. When I call that sproc from the client, though, I cannot drop the tables. I need to allow the user, say "Alex", to drop/create tables (actually, that would be DDL). Which role should "Alex" assume ? How do I do that ? I run the following sproc named, say, "CREATE_TABLE" (SNIP): ____________________________________________________________________

I am contemplating getting into Python, which is used by engineers I admire - google and Bram Cohen, but was horrified to read "no variable or argument declarations are necessary." Surely that means that if I misspell a variable name, my program will mysteriously fail to work with no error message. If you don't declare variables, you can inadvertently re-use an variable used in an enclosing context when you don't intend to, or

Hello all, I am trying to write a "simple" animation using C#, and I've tried many things but nothing seems to work for me without leaking memory. Here's a very simple piece of code that uses a timer to set the image of a label from an ImageList every 100ms or so. This is what was being used when I inherited this piece of code, and I thought it was OK, until I changed the size of the label to do animation on a larger piece of screen...

We're migrating to a new server (I hate lease expirations!), and our Net Admin set up the new one before leaving for Colorado on Spring Break. My assignment was to bring the website over. On our website, we use IFrames to host legacy ASP pages. That feature no longer works on the new system, and I have noticed that, unlike on the old system, intellisence is now drawing a squiggle under the IFrame tag on the aspx page. When I hover, it...

I've read the page life cycle thing in msdn, still, i'm getting a bit confused of thinking how all the things are going under the hood... I know that when page loading, that the controls' properties is populated and when page unloading, the resources are cleared. What I want to know is what's happening behind it, that is, from the perspective of the asp.net implementor.....I'm not sure whether i've stated clearly, hope you get it.

You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
