Is it possible to ignore the first digit in sort?

58 New Member
I have tried to research this and I'm worried the answer is already in this forum and I just didn't search under the correct word.

However, I'm wanting to sort a table of job numbers while ignoring the first digit of the number. For example if the job number is 65599 I want it to sort the table using the last four digits of the number.

All the job numbers have 5 digits but none of the digits are constant.

Is this possible?

Thanks in advance!

The answer was already in this forum. I figured it out.

=Right([Field Name], Number of Digits)

and then sort.

Thanks. Great forum.

Bear in mind - the field dousn't have to be displayed (or SELECTed in SQL) for you to use it in the sort (ORDER BY in SQL).

Let's say I have this: std::string s1; std::cin >> s1; This will read s1 from cin until it finds a space (or a newline, whichever comes first). Okay this works. But when I want to continue reading it reads what's left over in the cin, and well that's logical.

It doesn't currently seem possible to switch between different users using SET SESSION AUTHORIZATION. If I log in as the superuser and switch to another user that works, but if I then switch to a second user in succession I get permission denied when I try to select from a table that the user does have access to. Following is a cut and paste of two sessions showing what I mean (with certain details masked out). defender# psql db1-U...

Hello everyone - I'm trying to compile an application to generate all possible 3 digit combinations using 0-9 and a-z, I've looked everywhere for a solution and I found Combinations! v 2.0 for windows, but I was more looking to implement my own solution rather than buy software to perform a small task. Thanks!

Using VB2005, a datagridview is displaying the dates with 4 digit years on one workstation but displays the dates of the exact same records with only 2 digit years on a 2nd workstation. I will guess that it may be an environment setting on the other workstation. But how can I make the datagridview display the dates in the same format consistently for all workstations? The data is coming from a sql Server 2000 table. Select * from...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
