Creating a Textbox Control that will Cross Reference a Table

Hi All;
I have a form that contains a textbox control called CPUServicetag (Serial number). My users enter in the CPUServicetag manually. My question is this ... How do I go about creating an expression in a separate textbox control with in the control source that would cross reference the manually entered CPUServicetag to a Table called RMA which contains two fields: Serial_num (CPUServicetag) and RMA# , and display in this separate textbox control the RMA# associated to the CPUServicetag which is the same as Serial_num. This is something I have never dealt with before and need some assistance

In that case the answer is in Post #9.
Do you need further explanation?

I have bound my form control(RMA) to column RMA in my MonitorReturns table but I am not able to capture the result into the table.

In that case I'm confused.
If both the form and the control are correctly bound (To the Table and Field respectively) then the value of the control should reflect the current value in the field for the current record.
Can you explain more clearly what is wrong.

It would be my pleasure. I am trying to have the RMA number that is displayed in the following script you helped me to integrate:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1.  Private Sub CPUServicetag_AfterUpdate()
  2.
  3.     Dim strRMA As String
  4.
  5.     If Me!CPUServiceTag > "" Then
  6.         strRMA = "='" & DLookup("RMA", "RMA", _
  7.                                 "Serial_num='" & Me!CPUServiceTag & "'") & "'"
  8.     Else
  9.         strRMA = ""
  10.     End If
  11.
  12.     Me!RMA.ControlSource = strRMA
  13.
  14. End Sub
The RMA number that is dispayed from strRMA I want to capture it and place it into the table MonitorReturn in the Column RMA so that I can query the entries and place into a simple report. Both the form and the RMA control are correctly bound to the table MonitorReturn and the control to the column RMA

Well, I have to say that's pretty clear. All I don't understand is why the table is not being updated :confused:
The update should be done automatically as soon as you move from that record to another on your form (I assume you are doing that before trying to test the effects). Other than that, I can't think why it wouldn't be working for you. You certainly seem to have ticked all the right boxes.

NeoPa; I made a work around and built a query to pull from my RMA table and deposit the RMA number into the report I was looking to complete. It works pretty well so I think we can put this one to bed

OK Mitch. I appreciate the response :)
It's probably one of those things that would be obvious (or at least more so) if we had access to the database itself. As long as you're happy enough though...

Suppose we have an object hierarchy in XSD. For example, let us take Control, Label, TextBox and LinkLabel windows controls. Each control has some properties which are represented as elements. Some of the elements are of complex types as well, like bounds - of type rectangle. (See full example in the bottom of the letter.) DataSet.ReadXMLSchema fails to parse such XSD file. The problem is caused by complex type as an element of the...

I am attempting to print out a table using a repeater in which one field is updatable. Basically you would have a table of x number of rows and y number of columns. However: only one field in each row will be updatable. My thought was to build a repeater and then one of the <ItemTemplate> would be a textbox where the user can update the values in each. How would I go about in the code-behind to reference each textbox? My texbox...

Hi I'm trying to create a control with multiple regions that can be edited - maybe as templates I guess. I've seen a control that was done by Scott Mitchell which has rounded corners surrounding the control - here is a link to the page http://aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/081104-1.aspx) and this essentially has one editable region that will then be surrounded by the borders.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
