Regarding ODBC usage in Python...
it seems to me that there is a couple of ways to use odbc from python,
one of these is the MX version - now that one has a pretty steep licence
cost (imho). So now comes my question (from reading this group quite a bit):
- what is the basic reason for using MX versus the others?
- why do you (newsgroup) seem to think that this package is
the preferred one?
- in case above is incorrect - what package...

Before asking this questions I've spent literally _years_ reading
(Meyer, Stroustrup, Holub), googling, asking more general design
questions, and just plain thinking about it. I am truly unable to
figure out what would be a "proper" OO design (in C++) for this.
There may be alternatives to writing my own ODBC handle classes, and I
may be interested in them, but I'd like to pursue this particular
problem, if for no other reason than to...

I have noticed something disturbing when retrieving datasets over a
relatively slow line (multiple T1). I am looking at about 25 seconds to
retrieve 500 rows via a php-odbc link. This same select from the cli is
for all intents practicaly instantaneous. After much research I discovered
that PHP by default uses a dynamic cursor type which can be quite a bit
slower than a forward only cursor. BTW I have been searching forward
only/read...

Here is what happens (Windows 2000):
1. open the ODBC Data Source Administrator
2. go to the System DSN tab
3. then click Add - the Create Data Source screen pops up
4. select Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)
5. click Finish - the Create Data Source screen just disappears
The same happens if i select User DSN in step 2 or if i select any
other Access driver in step 4.

I am using Access 2003 and are linking to an Oracle 9i ODBC datasource
(using Oracle ODBC drivers). After linking the tables in Access, I inspect
the data contained in the linked tables. For tables that involve a number
field as the primary key, the data is returned successfully. For tables
that involve a character field (e.g. CHAR(3) or VARCHAR(10)) as the primary
key, I have the correct number of rows returned, but the data displayed...

Hey guys, I have an ODBC problem that has me stumped. I wrote a VBA
script to run in Microsoft Excel that pulls data out of an application
using that application's ODBC driver and puts it into Excel. I am
trying to translate the same program over to Microsoft Access and I ran
into a problem. Access locks up if the data I am querying for is not
present in the database.
To retrieve data from the database of the application, my Excel...

I just started using Access 2003, and I can't link a SQL Server table. I
right-click on the database window; select Link Tables; and select ODBC
Databases from the Files of Type dropdown. As soon as I select ODBC
Databases from the Files of Type dropdown, the entire dialog box disappears.
No error message. Just disappears, and I'm back at the database window.
I have tried this with other databases, including a brand new blank one, and...

In short what I'm trying to do is read a document using an xml parser
and then upload that data back into a database. I've got the code more
or less completed using xml.etree.ElementTree for the parser and dbi/
odbc for my db connection.
To fix problems with unicode I built a work-around by mapping unicode
characters to equivalent ascii characters and then encoding everything
to ascii. That allowed me to build the application and debug...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
