Perhaps you database guru able to suggest what would be a good choice for
opensource database platform to use to develop projects.
At the moment the project is small/medium, but it will grow in size both
data, users, and number of transactions. I'm using MySQL for right now but
it lack of trigger, stored procedures, etc ... it sometimes slows the
project.
Is PostgreSQL any better/worse? Or is that any other choice beside the two?...

I have an application that segregates data into two different
databases. Database A has stored procs that perform joins between
tables in database A and database B. I am thinking that I have reached
the limits of Application Roles, but correct me if I am wrong.
My application creates a connection to database A as 'testuser' with
read only access, then executes sp_setapprole to gain read write
permissions. Even then the only way 'testuser'...

List,
What are the recommended work arounds for cross database foreign keys?
As I understand it transactions are not atomic with the TCL method. I have
a situation that requires a master database and then a separate database for
every subscriber. Subscribers need read/write to both databases. I chose
separate databases because there are 20+ large tables that would require
uid/gid columns, indexes and where conditions to separate...

All,
New to the list and a relative newbie to PostgreSQL. Please forgive stupid
questions.
Designing an application server for a work order processing (et al)
database. I have a good handle on sequences, referencial integrity, views,
& the basics. What books/documentation would you recommend to learn more

I'm developing a web site which might have 200 or so simultaneous users.
The current design has an Access database providing various information.
I've read that Access supports no more than 66 simultaneous users.
However, I'm using ADO.Net, which only connects when it needs some
information, and then disconnects right away.
The amount of data I'm working with is pretty small, no more than 15 rows
and 5 or 6 columns (at most) per query.

Hi all,
I have a design question:
I have a bunch of users (name, address, zip, etc.). They are assigned a
card with a specific id.
The only thing unique is this card id, or probably the combination of
all other user fields.
So it's seductive to use the card id as the primary key.
This card allows access to certain places and all access is logged.

The system has worked for two years.
SQL Server 2000 runs on Windows 2000 Server "A".
Another instance of SQL Server 2000 was moved from Windows 2000 Server
"B" old to Windows 2003 Server "B" new, by restoring a backed
up copy from old to new.
The system has cross server updates, where Server "A" is updating
records in very large tables on Server "B".

We have a new project here, one that I have never tried maybe its easy
I don't know yet.
We have people that have records dating back over 5 yrs on a sql
server.
We have to build an access 2003 database for data entry of the people
then pull data from the sql server to fill in data for these records.
that sounds good....except to start I need record # and date....no
problems there.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...
