I have gotten to the point where attempting to run my application using
"java -jar HotSpotImageTest.jar" no longer generates a complaint about not
finding function main. It turned out that the problem was that there was a
package statement as the first line of the code generated by Borland's
JBuilder IDE. Yes, I used JBuidler's form designer to create it. I don't
normally worry about adding "package" to code I write, and didn't much care...

In the context of LATEX, some Pythonista asked what the big
successes of Lisp were. I think there were at least three *big*
successes.
a. orbitz.com web site uses Lisp for algorithms, etc.
b. Yahoo store was originally written in Lisp.
c. Emacs
The issues with these will probably come up, so I might as well
mention them myself (which will also make this a more balanced

I've just started trying to use .NET. It was installed on my PC by our
desktop support group who have no experience with .NET.
It appears they did not install ASP.NET since a test page displays the HTML
minus any ASP.NET controls.
How can I definitely verify whether ASP.NET was installed? And how should it
be installed?
Basically our desktop groups solution was to wipe my PC and start again or
they offered to just give me the CD's and try...

Hi,
OUr .NET app is written specifically to run on the English version of
Windows server. Some customers are running Windows Frenchm other versions.
I'm not talking about regional settings, but actually French Windows itself.
How can one tell if Windows itself is English, versus French version with
English (U.S) regional settings?
thanks

Hello,
first of all let me tell you that I do not know anything about C++, so pls.
be patient.
I found some C++ source code that is supposed to be a program to generate a
file called Passfilt.dll that can be used for Password filtering in Win2000
(setting stronger password policies for W2k). Now, I would like know it
these files look like a C++ Source? If yes how I run that program, do I need
a compiler etc.?

Hi All,
I am using a COM object and so I have to use a form for it to work.
The problem is I need to run it as a service as well.
When I run it in a test scenario everything works fine and Invoke
works as expected.
However, when I run it as a service the Invoke command just bombs out
without any errors and everything just stops. I have the service
installed using an administrator account and interacting with the
desktop for testing.

Hi;
..NET 2.0
I have a situation where when the user selects an item in a drop down list,
the code behind is called to update the values in another list on the page.
This update can take 3 - 5 seconds.
When it is complete, the same page is still displayed. What is the best way
to tell the user the page is working? I don't like the idea of switching to a

Hi -
I have a button that runs 2 reports. If there is no data on the
report, I use the No Data event, and tell the user, and Cancel the
execution of that report.
However, if the first report has no data, the second report doesn't
run. All execution stops.
Is there a way in VBA to go on to the next report after the No Data?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
