Unable to open Backend Database

3 New Member
Hello,
I am in charge of maintaining a little ACCESS database used by our purchasing department. I need to add some new values to a table, but I can't open the .be database in order to access the table involved.

Not really understanding what is keeping me out, I have investigated a .ldb database, which I believe is a locks database. I can open this with textpad and, even when all users are logged out of the application, there is one machine name still in the table. I corresponds to 3 people, who I cannot believe were logged into this database at 7:50 a.m. They are all systems people, including one who is the domain administrator (the database is location on a network drive).

Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether this locks file is keeping me from accessing the backend tables, or have another idea about why I can't open the backend tables. I can click on the file name in the directory, get the message about opening even with macros, and then nothing. the fetch hourglass disappears, but the ACCESS window remains empty.

Many thanks.

Do you think that the locks file is keeping me from viewing and working on the tables in the backend database?
Thanks,
Susan

The appearance of the ldb file simply means that the database has been opened by a user. If that user opened it exclusively you still should be able to access it as read only. However, I agree with PEB just delete this file if possible.

You may find you won't be allowed to delete it and will have to find the user who has the system open. If the ldb was left there by an incomplete shutdown I would suggest trying any of the users who were likely to have it opened to see if they can shut it down.

Do you think that the locks file is keeping me from viewing and working on the tables in the backend database?
Thanks,
Susan

If you can't delete the ldb ffi you can do Copy Paste to the mdb file to an other folder and try to open your database from there!

Thanks. Yes, I did copy only the mdb to a separate work folder. Apparently, the locks file is NOT the issue keeping me from accessing the tables in the backend database. I know this for sure now because I got into work early enough and got the users to cooperate so that I was able to copy the be and the mdb before anyone had opened the application (no locks file).

So... I'm wondering where I might look to see if and what other security might be in place. Any ideas?

many thanks.

We have an app running on Citrix which I am trying to turn into an MDE. It is in Access 2000. The frontend application is now about 16 mb. The backend database consists of tables linked into the frontend (its about 50 mb). Whenever I use the tools / create MDE option, I get the cryptic error message: "Microsoft Access was unable to create an MDE database".

Access97 Database The database is split into a frontend and backend and not connected to any other database. The database has an unbound report with 15 subreports. Some of the subreports include Excel charts in unbound object frames. When I add 3 additional subreports, I get the error message that Access can't open any more databases. Can anyone suggest what may be causing the error message. Thanks!

Hi: I'm running a large database on PostgreSQL 7.1.3. 20 days ago the database failed with a threatening and not too descriptive error like: pg_exec() query failed: server closed the connection unexpectedlyThis probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request. I lost some data and had to recreate a table, without knowing the reason

I just got Access 2003 and have been playing around with it. This whole macro security thing can be a bit annoying. Initially, I was able to link to my backends located on a second computer. Then after I compacted the backends on the other computer and I think I also tired of the macro security message on Access 2003 and selected to not run unsafe expressions. Now I cannot link to the backends on the second computer from the computer...

I've converted my application from A2K format to A2003 format. I tried to follow Allen Browne's protocol in getting my app into A2003 (although I was unable to find informtion on the conversion process). Lots of decompiling and lots of compacting of the original application in A2000. Then the app was opened in A2003 and compacted, decompiled and compacted. Next I imported everything into a blank A2003 database. Then this db was...

A97. Split database. Frontend DB1.MDB. Backend DB1BE.MDB. Tables are linked between DB1 and DB2. From my testing, if I open DB1 exclusively using /excl the backend DB1BE is not opened exclusively. If I open DB1 but have no tables open and then open up DB1BE exclusively, DB1BE will open exclusive. But if I then attempt to open a linked table in the frontend DB1 I'm informed I can't use the table because the file is in use.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
