I am trying to insert some textual data belonging to an HTML page into
a table column with 'TEXT' as data type
mysql's maual _/manual.html#String_types tell you, you may insert up
to (2^16 - 1), that is 65535 characters, but I am getting errors when
I try to insert a column larger than 236 characters.
Initially I thought it might be because I had to escape some
characters, but after playing a some scenarios and just inserting a
bunch...

Cheerio,
I would appreciate opinions on the following:
Given the task to read a _complete_ text file into a string:
What is the "best" way to do it?
Handling the buffer is not the problem -- the character
input is a different matter, at least if I want to remain within
the bounds of the standard library.

Hello, Folks...
I'm almost becoming a regular to this newsgroup.
I am trying to display the contents of an MS-SQL Text field to a TextBox in ASPdotNET. The text in this field contains all sorts of characters including cheverons (i.e. ">" and "<") and occasionally I get the following error condition (listed below). Is there anything I can do to avoid it? I use the simple line txtArticle.Text = datareader("Article") in my code to populate...

Hi All,
As always, my posts come with a 'Warning: Newbie lies ahead!'
disclaimer...
I'm wondering if it's possible, using raw_input(), to provide a
'default' value with the prompt?
I would like to include the ability to edit an existing value (drawn
from an SQLite table) using a DOS console Python app, but my gut

I'm trying to write a simple JavaScript function which will use a
button to copy table cell data into a form input text box as the
"value" attribute.
The following is intended to test the function, but doesn't work. I'm
new to this - previous JavaScript experience mostly copy & paste -
could somebody please point to where I'm going wrong.

Hi,
Can anybody comment on this?
In comp.lang.php I advised somebody to skip using:
<script language="javascript">
and use:
<script type="text/javascript">
And mr. Dunlop gave this response:

I have an asp.net/csharp application that requires a particular variable to
work properly. This variable is usually passed via a query string in the URL
when the application is first run but under certain circumstances the query
string may not contain the variable. So I need some way of establishing a
default value if one isn't set.
Is there some way I can set a query string on page_load OR is there some way
I can use a global variable...

I know this could be a dumb question, I just want to confirm that it
is faster to execute inserts, if a timestamp field is set to have a
default value, like DEFAULT CURRENT TIMESTAMP, and skip that column in
inserts, than to include explicit timestamps in the inserts and let
the DB insert them.
Thanks!

Dear all,
I have encountered this weird problem.
I have a class definition with an __init__ argument 'd'
which defaults to {}. This argument is put in the 'self.d'
attribute at initialization
I create two independent instances of this class; the code
is as follows.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
