I posted this question yesterday, and nothing but silence.
I looked through cdma in Google, and it seems whenever someone posts
questions about scatter charts, they get ignored.
So, hopefully, this time, someone will have some brilliant response to
share.
Starting with the Chart Wizard, I can't get the Access scatter chart to
place the data points correctly, ie at the intersection of their XY
position. They only plot along the Y axis.
Is this a known bug, or is it something I'm doing?
Thanks

Well, I can really only offer a personal opinion on this. Over the
years I've found that if I leave scatter charts alone then they
return the compliment, so it's not that I don't care about scatter
charts it's more that they and I respect each others space.
You gotta get with it, then. I have a client willing to pay big bucks to
give them a nice scatter chart onscreen and on a report. I ended up
hand-coding the thing, and it looks great - better than if I used the
built-in chart.

Thanks for that. It's very informative.
Now what about the subject?

It's not a bug, it's just you.
Or rather, you and a fairly difficult user interface.
I don't think you'll get very far using the wizard.
Click on the object and open the application. Examine
the properties, help file, and methods. Presumably
you have the type library loaded: use the object
browser to browse the object. Change the sample data
to your own data, to make it easier to see what you
are doing.

If you have a screenshot of a successful scatter chart you produced in

I hand coded a form - it looks great, but it took me 6 hours to get it just
so, with the scaling, labels, dealing with outliers, and other options.
Thanks

6 hours? it doesn't get any easier if you use the
graph object.
You have a file called Report3.snp

No offense, but that's hideous.
My custom chart is beautiful (if I do say so), and is just what the doctor
ordered. Plus, my labels next to the data points show the month, and if you
hover the mouse you see the actual data, not the derived pairs you see in
Excel (like 0.19922, -.12582). And I show the most current data point in
red.

Thanks Salad. The problem is, the scatter charts in Excel work fine. I
just can't get them to work in Access.
FWIW, I've a major A97 app that produces charts (but no scatter stuff,
unfortunatley) I've rewritten for A2003. My usual tactic is to record a
macro in Excel and then "translate" the VBA to Access. However, I've
found theis approach much more difficult to do in A2003 and in the end,
for one area, simply had to copy objects and code directly from my A97
app to the A2003 app. I find it very difficult to get things to work
just right in chart automation in A2003, far more finicky than I
remember in A97.

I agree. And I'm just guessing! I haven't even /seen/ your
chart, and I still think it's better :~)
I think for the work you put in, you got a better result than
if you had persevered with the chart object.
Simple charts work ok if you put some work into them,
but the chart object is difficult and inflexible.
There are third party chart objects which I assume are better.
I think that a simple pie graph looks good in MS Chart, so the
chart object is good for doing power point style management
reports. The further away you get from that, the less useful
MS Chart is.

Yes. Check out these charting tools
http://www.xcelsius.com/Examples/Overview.html
Yes, those third-party tools are very lovely. I hope to be able to
create masterpieces like that someday. But guess what? Based on my
reading of the PDF Reference Manual I believe that the PDF graphic
environment has all the tools for me to do everything you see on that
sample page and more eventually. Also, if I need something in a hurry
it's nice to know there's a shortcut :-).

Is it possible to build a chart where you supply the X & Y Co-ordinates and
have the data displayed at that point.
To clarify:- Suppose we have a cemetary (Scatter seems inapproporiate here)
and have the X & Y co-ordinates of each grave. I want to display the name of
the corpse in the correct position
Morbid?
Actually it is boats in a boat compound.

Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
