Hello,
I am running an Access 2003 database, quite modest in size, that is
used by upwards of 5 users.
I need to modify the database such that these users can work
simultaneously and, in some cases, offline.
It is split to front and back ends and works over Citrix. So the
multi-user is working fine.
Offline is a different issue! I have used synchronization in the past
but had problems getting the staff to hook up their laptops so that the
sync could occur - these laptops are only used for accessing the
database at certain times.
Is there another solution to the offline question? (Note: we also run
other databases in SQL Server 2000 so I was debating moving the
back-end over there and investigating replication. However, the Access
database is quite small and non-user intensive so it seems a lot of
work that may not be necessary).
Any advice would be much appreicated.
Thanks,
Alexandra 3 6916
Unless you implement your own "synchronizatio n" technique, which could be a
daunting task, the solution that Access offers for online and offline use
with synchronization capability is "Replicatio n." Those who are familiar
with Replication will tell you that, done well, it works; but that it is not
a project to be undertaken by the "faint of heart."
Just from my observation, as I have not implemented a project using
Replication, and have only worked on one (which did encounter some
problems), I'd say that means "You have to know what you are doing and it is
not easy for everyone to understand." and that "It is a good deal of work to
implement properly."

Thanks Larry...that is pretty much what I thought. hhhmmm..do data
access pages work offline? Might that be a solution?

As a matter of fact, Lyle Fairfield posted some interesting information
about Data Access Pages, which I thought could mean they would work offline.
But if you could use them offline, you still would be updating data on each
offline user's machine, and would still have the problem of synchronizing
updates done offline (possibly by multiple users) with updates done
online -- essentially requiring you to reinvent replication.

I have multi-page tiff files. I need to extract individual frames from the

just multi-page tiffs with JPEG only. The code runs great when dealing with

I can seem to get the dimensions of a frame in a multiframe tiff.
After selecting activeframe, the Width/Height is still really much larger
than the page's actual dimensions.
When I split a TIFF to several PNG files this causes a problem, becuase the
resulting image is (the page to the far left and a lot of black space
surrounding it and a filesize that is larger than needed.
Any ideas?

Hello everyone,
Wide character and multi-byte character are two popular encoding schemes on
Windows. And wide character is using unicode encoding scheme. But each time I
feel confused when talking with another team -- codepage -- at the same time.
I am more confused when I saw sometimes we need codepage parameter for wide
character conversion, and sometimes we do not need for conversion. Here are
two examples,

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
