Loss of data

Just curious if anyone else has come across a similar instance. At this stage
I do not suspect Access (or me!) is at fault but here is what has happened...

On Friday a split ACC2003 db (local mde FE's, mdb BE on network) encountered
corruption of a single record. I noticed a few people also talking about poor
network performance around the same time so suspected maybe a network fault
was to blame.

This morning a couple of users of identical, but different db's (i.e own set
up of identical BE/FEs), have mentioned that data they added to records on
Friday afternoon seems to have been lost. My initial thoughts were that the
network guys have surreptitiously completed some kind of system restore and
overwritten the files with a slightly older backup copy.

However, another long-term experienced user reported that data in an old
combined ACC2000 db that also sits on the network and is purely for
archive/referal purposes, has also gone missing so now I am not quite so sure.
In short we are talking about four different db's, various users (some new,
some experienced), and two different versions of Access. I suspect it would
be a mistake for me to assume all problems are down to the same cause e.g.
maybe someone's been cut and pasting from the old database instead of copying!
No ones threatening to lynch me yet, but I'm sure if this happens again a
queue with soon form.....

Not sure there's an answer, just interested in any thoughts..... :o)

Hi, we have a php-based application that is hosted by Yahoo! Webhosting. Ever since the application was created, it has been plagued by periodic session data loss. Here's a typical example: We will successfully input 7 clients into the system, but upon submitting the 8th, all session data fails to enter the MySQL database. After viewing the record in the database, the row is empty except for data that was not stored in a session. I...

Data loss in Access-97 from VB 6.0 I have encountered Random data loss in our access database. Sometimes the users call in saying that the records entered by them are lost. The users, use our VB front end to enter the data (Users do not enter data directly into the database) Most of the times I have noticed that the problem occurs when users add new records. All our tables have a unique alpha-numeric primary key.

I'm having some problems with an Access 2000 MDB file with a SQL Server 7 back end, using ODBC linked tables. I previously wrote about this, but am reposting it with some additional information and in summary form, in hopes that someone might have an idea about what's going on. I am using a bound form which is losing data a significant portion of the time. Basically, the form contains 6 fields and three subforms, as follows: Field A...

Hello, I am Helmut, my database for multiuser is Frontend/Backend. The turnover file is browsed by VBA for Article numbers to be found in the article table. I use DAO 3.6 lib. The sql Statement uses the article number of the turnover file - with 29 Fields. After record 187 or so, the Article number, read from the turnover file shows only a string of ten blanks.

Hallo! I'm working with C# .NET 2.0, implementing Client/Server Applications which are connecting via Network to SQL-Server or Oracle Databases. To stay independent from the underlaying Database I use System.Data.Common.DBConnection and .DBCommand. How can I keep aware from connection losses (network not availeable, db-server not available...)? Are there any strategies to detect this broken connections, and how can I

Hello everyone, I'm migrating a C++ program from 32-bit systems to 64-bit systems. The old programmers used some annoying assignments like assigning "long" to "int", which may lead to data loss. Is it possible to let the compiler (specifically, GCC) spew some warnings on this kind of implicit type casts? Or you suggest use some other static source codes analysis tools?

You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
