"Clear" Type In Access 2007

I downloaded the Office 2007 Beta today and have been clicking around
Access and the other Office Apps. They all have clear type switched on
despite the fact that I have it turned off in Windows. I couldn't see
anywhere to turn it off (maybe I missed it) - hopefully the finished
product will have this option.

Do other users use clear type? I find that my LCD display is razor
sharp with it turned off and all fonts are decidedly blurry and harder
to read with it turned on. If I wanted everything to be blurry, I'd
drag out my old CRT and use it! Having said that, I think "clear" type
is a misnomer.

I'd like to hear other people's comments. Not strictly an Access topic
I know.

On my dual 19 inch ViewSonic LCDs the text is MUCH better looking with clear
type turned on than with it turned off. I downloaded the utility from Microsoft
that allows you to tweak the clear type settings and that made some difference,
but even before doing that clear type was still a big improvement.

Are you running your display at its native resolution? I think I read somewhere
that clear type doesn't work as well if you don't.

Thanks Allen and Rick. Yes, I am running my LCDs (high end Samsungs
with digital inputs) at native resolution and I have used the tweaking
utility from MS. I guess whether one likes clear type or not is a very
subjective thing. After using fuzzy CRTs for years, I like the razor
sharp edges on text that a good LCD is capable or rendering. Clear
type seems to take some of this sharpness away and also seems to reduce
contrast to some extent.

At the same time clear type makes the text look softer and far less
"blocky" and this may be very appealing to a lot of people. Having
said all this, I've turned clear type on, tweaked it with the MS
utility and am going to give it a try for a week or so. I've read that
it's easier on the eyes. I don't really believe this, but maybe after
a week I'll be a convert!

Is there anyone out there who prefers to have it turned off?
