I'm not sure there's an easy solution to this, but thought I'd ask. I
often find myself with a query which I'd like to reuse, but with a
different datasource. These datasources generally have identical
field names. The queries select a subset of the fields, so "Select *"
is not really an option.
Is there an easy way to change the source of a query, either in the
design grid or SQL display? I suppose I could copy the SQL into
WordPad...

I've converted my application from A2K format to A2003 format.
I tried to follow Allen Browne's protocol in getting my app into A2003
(although I was unable to find informtion on the conversion process). Lots
of decompiling and lots of compacting of the original application in A2000.
Then the app was opened in A2003 and compacted, decompiled and compacted.
Next I imported everything into a blank A2003 database. Then this db was...

Hi,
Not sure if this is Access, SQL or ODBC. I have a SQL database with an
Access Front End. They are linked with ODBC. Occasionally (it's
happened 3 times in 4 months) some of the linked tables in Access
become read only and I can't add new records to them. If I go into
design view (in Access) the tables have lost their Primary Key. In
SQL, they still work just fine. The only way I have found to get the
links working again is to delete...

Can an Excel spreadsheet or a section of one be embedded into an
Access form and serve as a subform from which other parts of the

I had a strange situation with a view in SQL 7, that I could use some input
on.
I had a very simple view -- select a, b, c from table1 where x=y and z=q.
Field a in table1 originally was varchar 70. A long time ago I changed it to
varchar 95.
I used this view as an ODBC linked table in an Access MDB. Recently, there
was one row which has a value in field a that was more than 70 characters
long. This caused an error when the view as...

I recently started a co-op/internship at a company and they are
looking to migrate a large legacy supported application from OLEDB to
SQL Server. I'm doing prelim work in experimenting with the options
available. The application is huge (1+ million lines of C++ code), so
it'd be quite a bit of man hours to adapt all the database code for
SQL Server. I stumbled upon linked tables in an OLEDB file to an ODBC
source (such as SQL Server) and...

Hi everyone,
I am using Access 2003. I have a database with a table in it which is
linked to an excel spreadsheet. When I install the database on
someone else's system, the pathname to the excel file is different.
Howwever, as it is in runtime on their system, I can't update the link
using the Linked Table Manager.
Is there a way of using a public constant to store a path which can be
altered in advance and then combined with a...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
