Retrieving weekly totals from MSAcces

hi,
I am writing a java application that connects to a MS Access databse
with two fields , Date and amount. I can insert into this datbase
using the application.
Now , I need to retrieve weekly totals(of the amount column) from the
database. I have no idea how to start this .
Can anyone help?

Can your Java appliation pass/run a SQL statement and return the rows?

A function in Access is Format(). It's possible to return the work
number. Ex:
? format(date()," ww")
11
This is the 11th week of 2006. So you may want to group by the week
number if you want multiple weeks in the SQL statement.

You can filter on a date range and maybe group by year, week and sum on
the amount in the SQL statement.

I was wondering if there is a simple way to present a totals column in a bound datagrid where the totals aren't actually persisted (in my case to an xml file). Ideally, when I populate the datagrid using the dataview, I would like to add values to an unbound totals column. What is the best way to do this? Perhaps the dataview should contain...
