Is there some way to shut down Access automatically?

I have a simple database that is used to track experiemnts in a
research lab.
I make it compact and backup each night, but when users leave it open,
that fails.
Is there a way to set the mdb so that if there is no user input for
say 30 minutes, it shuts itself down?

Do I write an on timer procedure that resets a counter when the main
switchboard opens and then resets the timer to 0 each time the
keyboard is used to input information. After 30 minutes of inactivity
it loops to end program?

Thanks
Jerry

You will find some information on this here:

One thing the article doesn't mention is how to handle a partially completed
record entry if the user left it that way. I would recommend aborting the
entry, since a partial entry would not be correct data. You would have to
let the users know that you are doing this so that they will know to not
expect what they partially completed to still be there the next day when
they come in. Also, you may want to check the time of day in addition to the
idle time if this is only causing you a problem at night and only shut down
the database if it has been idle and it is after quitting time. If the file
hasn't been idle, then you may have someone working late. In this case,
you'll just have to ask them when they'll be done or ask them to close the
file because you need to do some work.

Great article and suggestion Wayne.
I got it to work fine in a test database

Would you check time and alter execution branching with a Case or an
If syntax? I could see either working fine since its a simple thing
to see if

now() (formatted for time) > 1900 but < 0600, then execute the
shutdown

The choice between an If...Then...Els e and a Select Case would be which ever
is easier for you to type and easier to read and follow later if you need to
make changes. If you're going to wind up with a bunch of
If...Then...Els eIf...Then, etc, then I'd usually go for the Select Case.

I was just thinking about this, specifically wondering if there's any features that the C specification currently lacks, and which may be included in some future standardization. Of course, I speak only of features in the spirit of C; something like object-orientation, though a nice feature, does not belong in C. Something like being able to #define a #define would be very handy, though, e.g: #define DECLARE_FOO(bar) #define...

Running XP pro, SP2. Visual studio .NET 2003. App written in C# I have written an application that hides itself when run and shows a notification icon in the system tray. If the main form is minimized to the tray and I tell windows to restart, other desktop apps close down fine but my program's icon remains sat in the system...

Hello. I have a little problem. I created a little Service which uses SIP, all works rather well, but when I want to shut it down in the Services panel, it looks as if it's shut down, but in fact it's not: - when I try want to delete the .DLL file, I can't: the file is still locked - if I "Start" my Service again, it refuses I have to wait like ~20s, and then it is really shut down. When I shut down the Service, and then try to Start it...

Shut down Windows For various reasons you may require a shut down of Windows to happen programmatically. For instance if the installation of your program requires system reconfiguration. The following code will do this for you with options to Reboot, etc. 'Module code - modShutdown ' Shutdown Flags Const EWX_LOGOFF = 0 Const EWX_SHUTDOWN = 1

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
