Announcing Data Swap for MS Access

Please excuse this blatant attempt at advertising. I hope you find this
software both interesting and useful.

Data Swap

The Data Swap program works with Microsoft® Access databases to make
complex queries or repetitive tasks simple.

Data Swap works with one or two databases at time. Where a function
interacts with two databases at once the notation ‘2nd’ appears in the
function’s title. Other functions, such as ‘Find and Replace’, work with
the 1st or 2nd (optional) selected database.

Major Functions:

* Find and Replace
* Copy Table(s) to 1st/2nd MDB
* Back-Up Selected Tables
* Clear Selected Tables
* Update 2nd from 1st MDB
* Compare 1st and 2nd Tables

Data Swap has 6 distinct tools.

Concerning the 'Update 2nd from 1st MDB' tool as compared to
synchronization :

Update allows you to specify (query for)which records will be updated in
one table by another (between separate databases). In other words, all
records need not be updated, only records satisfying the (selected)
query criteria.

While this may be possible via vanilla Access, Data Swap attempts to
make this task relatively simple (including a preview of the SQL before
execution). While I'm very new to this NG it appears there is a certain
level of expertise which is uncommon among the average Access user. That
is to say, the average office Joe, faced with updating one database with
another, while leaving other records unaffected, may find Data Swap a
useful tool (with a reasonably friendly GUI).

I appreciate all comments and insights (really) as I'm just now bringing
this product to market.

Data Swap, by the way, is free to download, fully functional for thirty
days.

Regards,
Mark

The following is from http://www.caddproductivity.com/dataswapimage.htm

The Update function works by matching records (via specified field
values to match). When a record (or records) is matched between tables
in the 1st and 2nd MDB, the selected field values to 'Update' are
written to the 2nd table from the 1st table. This function is especially
useful when one table requires a specific data-set update from another
(while not affecting uninvolved field values in the same record set).

To perform the Update function both databases must contain the same
table name. Fields eligible for Update in the 2nd MDB's table must have
the same name and data type as their counterparts in the 1st MDB. Note
that when matching fields data types differ, the particular fields may
not be used, however other fields may still be eligible for Update.

To specify the which Fields in the selected Table to Update:

First select the fields to match values between tables. In the
'Update/Match' column, key the 'm' key to specify fields whose values
must be matched between tables to qualify an Update. Second select the
fields to Update. In the 'Update/Match' column, key the 'u' key to
specify fields whose values will be Updated. In either case, key any key
other than 'm' or 'u' to clear existing 'Match' or 'Update' entries.

The 'Preview SQL' checkbox is checked by default. When checked a message
box will appear (after clicking 'Go') showing the specified Match/Update
criteria. Click Yes to continue with the Update.

To execute to the Update: Press to 'Go' button. A vertical progress bar,
at the right of the form, indicates the Update's progress.

And you think spamming groups where advertising is explicitly prohibited by the

Steve? Izzat you? No? In that case, please see the FAQ at

I scoured the groups for some hands on code to perform the menial task of exporting table data from an Access 2000 database to Oracle database (in this case, it was oracle 8i but i'm assuming this will work for 9i and even 10g ) No one had what I needed, so I wrote it myself. I Rule. This code isn't going for efficiency, and isn't trying to be dynamic. It doesn't create the table structure in Oracle, that's up to you. (I

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
