Security settings for downloaded databases

I teach Access online, which means I'm constantly downloading databases
from the Internet in order to grade and/or troubleshoot them: 54
database files per week, minimum. I'm running Windows XP, which I THINK
is the source of my having to go in and unblock each downloaded
database before I'm allowed to work with it. Or perhaps there's
something in Access I haven't been able to track down. In either case,
I'm growing weary of being thusly protected from my students' work.

Does anyone know of a setting I can change somewhere so that I can more
efficiently work with downloaded Access files? Or must I resign myself
to always having to take that extra step?

Thank you!
Kelly

Two things you could try...

1. If Access 2003, change the macro security level to low.
2. On Internet Explorer, add the site you download to your trusted
list of sites - Tools/Internet Options/Security/Trusted Sites - set the
security level here to default...

Hope this helps,

Thank you so much!! I hadn't thought of the Trusted Sites angle.

I'll give it a shot.

Hi, I am installing an activex from a web page, for my clients, however, it is possible for users to prevent activex objects in IE. Some percentage of the users, don't see the initial "trust" yes/no security box (my control IS signed). I suspect, that this is because, they have some obscure security settings.

Is there a way to test for security settings in a users browser AND their firewall. Lets say someone is using zonealarm. Is there a way to test for their setting in zonealarm, so I can then redirect them to a specific page. The reason I am asking is that I have a flash front page. A user cannot see the page because he has his security settings set so that he does not see activex controls. I want to be able to test for those settings...

Whenever I run the Repair/Compact on my database, the security settings on the file change. A 3rd party application can only access the database over the network when the username "Everyone" is added to the "Group or user names" with access to the file. But each time the Repair/Compact utility is run, it removes "Everyone" from the list. This is under Win2000. Can anyone offer some advise or suggestions? Thanks

Hello, I've been tasked with creating a kind of system scanner for Windows XP that checks various security settings (like file access to certain groups). I've been looking for a way to programatically check these settings for a month and a half now, but I have had no success. Does anyone out there know of a way to check security settings using VB.NET? Thanks. Micheal Swenson

I want to develop code on a network (mapped) drive. All the time the execution fails with a security exception. OK, I thought I know the reason for that, and set the intranet security to full trust. BUT: this did not help. Then, I checked the assembly's rights with MSCORCFG's "evaluate assembly" and see that my intranet is in fact seen as an internet (!) by the .NET. No

I have already set the Internet Options->Advanced ->Security to "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" and restarted the browser. If I navigate using the browser to the website that contains the ActiveX, the ActiveX is loaded and the website works fine. However if I run a web test created using VS Team Suite or run a Load test of the same web test within VS, the ActiveX is not loaded on the page and this warning keeps...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
