A97 does not prevent entry of new records from a form bound to a table

MLH
I have a form frmEditAdminDat a.

Its AllowAdditions property is set to No. I thought this meant
the form could not be opened in a manner that allowed the
appending of new records to its source table. But that is
untrue. I open the form from code this way:

DoCmd.OpenForm "frmEditAdminDa ta", , , , acFormEdit

How can I prevent the addition of records to the source
table of a form in Access 97?

You do this (as the developer of the app) by NOT putting the acFormEdit argument
into the OpenForm statement. There are several ways to override the default
AllowAdditions property setting. You have discovered one of them.

If you want to give an MDB file to others and let them make design changes to it
then there is nothing you can do to prevent edits to a table. If you give them
an MDE and/or implement User Level Security then you have some control over who
can do what.

Struggling a bit here & would be grateful for any help. I have a table which has a list of people in it. Each person has a unique ID automatically allocated by Access but also belongs to one of 5 Groups - call them A to E. I'd like to generate a further automatic reference number based on something like Group/Unique ID so when I create a new record Access creates the Unique ID & I then enter in the group and then Access combines the two...

Can I set it up so that a certain combination of fields can't contain the same entries, on another record? e.g. a combination of FirstName/LastName/address? Or FirstName/LastName/phone? Or FirstName/LastName/email? Or is it possible to allow this but to throw up an alert message? Warning that this person is probably already in the database? TIA

I have a VERY basic question about figuring database size. I've inherited a database which is generally similar to this basic one: Item, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow (text), (int),(int),(int),(int) box, 1,0,0,2 hat, 0,0,0,1 car, 3,0,0,0 This format leads to a lot of zeros in the rows which take up a lot of

I would like to know why Access tables are updated immediately upon being changed (in table view or forms view). It seems to me that, at least with a single record form, that Access could have been designed so that there would be no permament change to the table unless specified explicity by the user. I am aware that you can program around it with unbound fields. I would like to know WHY it was done this way. If you know why it was done...

I want to set up a table where I can enter dates that will prevent data entry of Dates in the Main table. I have done this in Approach by linking two tables and setting up a validation formula IsBlank (Date.Date). After staff enter dates in the detail table it will prevent dates in the Main table. How can I do that in Access?

Background: I have a data entry form that is bound to a DataSet. This DataSet contains 9 tables and the form displays data from each table in textboxes, not a DataGrid. One of the tables in the ParentTable and the rest are children. For Example: The form shows the Customer and their most recently added Contact (in textboxes, not in a DataGrid). When I click the Add button on the form, I enumerate through all of the DataTables in the...

Hello, I am quite new to access, but seem to be getting there now. I am producing a database, and I want to make a data entry form that is not bound to a table, as I do not want half completed records to be saved to the database. I have used a append query for where I have information going into one table, and this worked great. What I am trying to do now though, is have a data entry form for a main table 1, as well as another table 2...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
