Where is system.mdw normally stored
in typical A97 installation?
This is not a valid question.
It can be stored anywhere.
And each individual MDB may have its own custom system.mdw.

It is a valid question. It begins with a capital letter and ends with a
question mark. If you started with a pc with no operating system, then
installed say Win 98 followed by Office 97 accepting all the defaults
offered there is little doubt where system.mdw would end up. And although
one could create many system.mdw files on the pc it might be better to give
them different names to reflect their purpose. Otherwise you'd end up like
my aquaintance Jeff who, since 1998, has named every single one of his
databases Jeff.mdb, but just keeps them in different folders.
Anyway, the OP would have probably been quicker searching his pc for
system.mdw.
